NowTV VMG8924-B10A Issues since flashing
« on: February 12, 2022, 01:57:44 PM »

Hi

My internet setup comprises of: VMG8924-B10A which I recently purchased of ebay HP Procurve switch and Asus AC87U

I flashed my VMG8924-B10A to 28-jumbo-tel-x6-stats1.1-cmd firmware
https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,13930.960.html

I then attempted to do a full reset procedure following this method in order to start from scratch :
https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,21273.msg413102.html#msg413102

However when changing my ethernet IP4 address to 192.168.1.11 / 255.255.255.0 / gateway 192.168.1.1 I couldn't get the  recovery page to appear.

When I try and edit the VDSL page to use Bridge mode (following either links below) and hit apply I get no response.
https://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/ZyXEL-VMG1312-VMG8924-Bridge-Mode
https://kitz.co.uk/routers/zyxel_VMG8324-B10A_bridge.htm

All I get showing is the image below after I hit reply (Image 119):

For now I have put my Huawei HG612 back on so I can have internet. Can anyone assist on how I can get the VMG8924-B10A back up and running again please?

Edit - When I go to flash the stock firmware 1.00(AAKL.28)C0.bin it just reverts back to 28-jumbo-tel-x6-stats1.1

[Moderator edited to split the one very wide screen-scrape into two PNG images.]

You have your Asus as 192.168.1.5 so if you set the Zyxel to 192.168.1.11 it will be within the DHCP range of the Asus.
You're also setting the gateway as 192.168.1.1 but there's nothing using that IP.

Why not just keep the Zyxel on the default of 192.168.1.1 ?

I always had my Zyxel as 192.168.1.1 and my Asus router as 192.168.1.2
Some others would recommend putting the router on another subnet like 192.168.2.1

Just noticed your screenshot. Why do you have enable WAN unticked?

Hi
Alot of terms here I don't understand but i'll try my best to answer.

- WAN is unticked as I was connecting my Huawei modem back to the internet. I was told it's best practise to untick WAN and then disconnect modem. Then turn WAN back on when the modem is plugged in and stable.

- The Zyxel's default gateway is 192.168.1.1. When I enter that into a browser I am greeted with the modem's login page.

- The reason my Asus is on 192.168.1.5 is because I am using something called Diversion ad blocker.  https://diversion.ch/diversion/installation.html
Basically it's ad block at router level. The installation instructions iirc advised dnsmasq is set outside routers range so I used 192.168.1.3 for it. But tbh I have no idea what I was doing to just entered anything  :-[

Thank you

Edit - I am now going to configure the Zycel directly from a laptop. So the modem LAN port 2 is plugged in via ethernet into it. It's not on my home network.

Don’t think this is true just leave it ticked

Your default gateway is the routers IP it can’t be .1 and .11.

Don’t think this is tru just leave WAN ticked

Your router is the default gateway so it can’t be .11 and .1

I've made the suggested changes:
Asus IP address 192.168.1.2  (Photos 2)
Asus IP Pool starting address 192.168.1.2 (Photos 1)
Asus IP Pool ending address 192.168.1.254  (Photos 1)
WAN - 100% ticked. I double checked.

By using a laptop I was able to change the Zyxel to Bridge mode and revert back to the latest official stock firmware. Although the configuration setup for the previous owner was still present. I deleted them.

These are the default settings. Am I good to go with these? (Screenshot 3-6)

Is the setup now working.

Unfortunately your images are not very clear to me so I can’t see very well the settings.

I followed a post here and disabled all adsl modulation since I have a VDSL line
https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=23853.0

Internet is back and running with the Zyxel. :graduate:

I'll leave it running with the latest stock firmware as the custom one gave me instability eg/ wireless and wired clients would disconnect frequently

Is there a way to stop it asking for a new 6-8 character password every time I log in using the default:
admin
1234

Great glad it’s running. I’m not sure about the password, others will likely know  ::)

Yes just make a new admin password in the user account tab, you will find that under maintenance and user account

I assume you have applied the password policy requirements

By that do you mean changing it to something that has 6 characters(mixed alphabetic and numeric)? Then no, as I want to keep the default 1234 password for stat logging.
