Three has 160Mhz allocation total, but this is the capability of a 100Mhz NR site

Impressive downloads, but the upload is via carrier-pigeon?  If I understood correctly all their (very brief) screenshots with 1000+ Mbits/s download speeds showed the upload in the low single figures.

Yes the upload concerned me too.

I assume this is still 4G for upload like my local mast?  This was my best result:

Our garden hedge, a big xmas tree and many rows of houses lie between me and the mast, plus the router is downstairs, so far from optimal.  I've been pleasantly surprised that even in wind and rain it seems to average 400-500Mbit peaking at 700Mbit on occasion.

Its good for downloads, which is mostly what I use it for, but had bad days where its unreliable likely due to the 4G upstream being congested.
Vodafone 4G has issues too even though that mast is really close and latency is a stark difference to DSL.

There are throughput graphs at 1:03, 1:57, 2:21.

Upload speeds are good in some areas, but at least in London I find upload speeds on Vodafone's 4G and especially EE's 4G to be way, way better than 3's 3/4/5G most of the time.

Yeah Vodafone here gets up to around 30Mbit up, possibily limited as its a small tower meant to just cover the top of the hill but it makes it really close to me.  Although the distance probably also explains why Three is a lot slower, its considerably further away and more obstructed.

If our loft wasn't permanently leaking I would have tried putting the 5G router up there.

Network Signal Guru
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qtrun.QuickTest

This requires root and I believe it only works with Qualcomm/Snapdragon SoCs, but it's good for stats. You can also force the phone to use certain bands, but the 5G stuff is only available to paying users.

There's also CellMapper:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cellmapper.net.cellmapper

This one isn't as detailed but gives us basic info, doesn't require root, and works with Snapdragon, Exynos, Mediatek, etc. It also allows you to upload data to cellmapper[.]net.

In your case it's probably a weak signal. In parts of London the problem seems to be too many customers and not enough 4G capacity. Sometimes you'll have full bars but can't even start a speed test. Since this is 5G NSA and they're using 4G for uploads, I rarely get fast upload speeds.

Their 5G download speeds are good though, better than Vodafone and with better 5G coverage (at least in London).

If our loft wasn't permanently leaking I would have tried putting the 5G router up there.

Well, I've been running a computer outdoors (link) since 2016 without problems  ;D ;D You'll probably be fine if you put the router inside a zip bag or something like that.

I read standalone 5G is being launched in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2022/02/quickline-claim-uk-first-with-launch-of-5g-standalone-broadband.html

As all current 5G phones are currently supporting NSA, can they switch to SA?

I know my Chateau 5G can.

My OnePlus 8 Pro can use NR, but only band n78. From the specs page:

> 5G n1, n3, n7, n28 can only work in NSA mode, 5G n78 can work both in SA and NSA mode.

This phones uses a Qualcomm X55 modem. I don't know how things work on older modems / modems from other brands.

Edit: The device after the 8 Pro (9 Pro) has better support:

> 5G SA:N1, 3, 7, 28, 41, 78

Qualcomm X60 modem
