My Zen ping has increased from avg 22ms to avg 32ms as reported by Speedtest.net some time between periodic testing on 13/01 and 19/01/22.
My speed test server has been Manchester located for some considerable time before and after noted latency increase.
Previously recorded tests displaying a London located server have given ping agv of 20ms..

As my location is N.I. would expect overall higher latency than the mainland, not a gamer so no big issue with my present BB requirements.

I wouldnt have thought it would have made that much difference to g3uiss if he were connected to a Manchester PoP.

It certainly would if he lived down south or near London, but shouldn't be that much more from up here in the North West.  Zen having a Manchester PoP hasn't ever been that disadvantageous for consumers in Lancs.

We need to see a tracert really to see if it gives any clues which part of the network is incurring additional latency.

@j0hn. Indeed, I had forgotten about such an eventuality.

So it's somewhere between your home and the ISP gateway lon2.ptn.zen.  As that part of the network is hidden using L2TP tunnelling there isnt much you can do about the backhaul and core routing to the ISP gateway.  In theory it is possible to steer you towards a specific gateway, but with your home location being in the NW, whether you connect to London or Manchester it shouldn't make much difference to you.

Depending on your final destination and what peering the ISP has with certain destinations, you can end up bouncing between a few London/Docklands locations but this shouldn't add any more than 1ms.

FYI
ptn = Telehouse North when using Plusnet naming of their gateways.   According to google ixn is Interxion.
Since being on FTTC it usually takes me 11/12ms or 20ms when Interleaved.  As others have mentioned the fact that you only lost PPP and not sync indicates its nothing to do with DLM.

Many, many years ago I had some sort of weird routing on the BTw backhaul that I couldnt do anything about.   It took my latency up to about 28-30ms from its usual 16-18ms (adsl1).   I reckon it must have gone up to Glasgow and back down or something equally stupid.  There wasn't anything I or Plusnet could do about it other than wait it out for about 3-4 weeks before it cleared and went back to normal.

@Kitz thanks for comments and as I thought. Something going on with TTB I suspect. Its no big deal my FTTP is scheduled for 10th March, so hopefully a smother ride after that

A forced PPP reset does suggest some maintenance happened somewhere.  You might be able to hop back on to a lower latency link.

You do realise you've just published your router's IP address which could open you up to attack?

Mine has been going on for a good year, First posted on Zen Forums but no respond, https://forum.zen.co.uk/forums/thread/63717.aspx

Im located in Borehamwood so ideally on FTTC i should get 7ms-9ms, Spoken to Lee on the NOC team (via ISPreview forum) but he says the gateway's are fine, So has to be a issue along the route? Also the PPPoE info says nge001.col-re0

On the ixn-lon / lond2 gateway, i get

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms fritz,box [192.168.178.1]
2 19 ms 18 ms 19 ms vt1.cor1.lond2.ptn.zen.net.uk [51.148.72.24]
3 19 ms 19 ms 21 ms lag-7.p1.ixn-lon.zen.net.uk [51.148.73.186]
4 21 ms 19 ms 19 ms lag-2.p1.thn-lon.zen.net.uk [51.148.73.132]
5 20 ms 19 ms 19 ms lag-1.br1.thn-lon.zen.net.uk [51.148.73.153]
6 19 ms 19 ms 24 ms netconnex-gw.zen.net.uk [82.71.254.2]
7 19 ms 18 ms 19 ms po11-13.bdr-rt3.thdo.ncuk.net [80.249.97.22]
8 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms po4-31.core-rs4.thdo.ncuk.net [80.249.97.85]
9 18 ms 18 ms 18 ms pingbox1.thinkbroadband.com [80.249.99.164]

Disconnecting and reconnecting via PPPoE (Not resetting Modem) and then get connected to the lond1 / thn-lon gateway as you can see is 6ms

Tracing route to one.one.one.one [1.0.0.1]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms fritz,box [192.168.178.1]
2 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms vt1.cor1.lond1.ptn.zen.net.uk [51.148.72.21]
3 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms ae-3.pe1.thn-lon.zen.net.uk [51.148.73.108]
4 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms ae-1.br1.thn-lon.zen.net.uk [51.148.73.113]
5 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms lonap.as13335.net [5.57.81.75]
6 7 ms 6 ms 6 ms one.one.one.one [1.0.0.1]

Aug 2020 was the time where everyone in the south got routed to Manchester and back to London again however this got fixed by Richard; https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/zen/t/4655433-routed-from-london-to-manchester-and-back-to-london.html

but with your home location being in the NW, whether you connect to London or Manchester it shouldn't make much difference to you

If people was near Manchester with an ISPs that let users terminate at Manchester, And are both in IXManchester where both ISPs and X are in there and agree on sharing at IXManchester, That would be the same as if someone was near London with 7ms-9ms providing the servers are at IXManchester

Anyone noticed a increase early AM in Zen latency. Both my lines got a forced PPP and have increased latency by about 10ms ?

My BT Wholesale SOGEA from Gamma was offline between 2.30am and 3am this morning with double the latency when it reconnected.

The  routers LAN IP is not unique ,and without his Public IP  couldn't be used to connect remotely
