Talktalk down?
« on: January 16, 2022, 04:32:44 PM »

Hi Kitzens,

Seems there's a MSO at Talktalk as a few people locally to me have no internet access. I'm with Uno BB and can't use the net since my service is provided by TT Wholesale. Is anyone else having issues? If I do a reboot of my VMG8924-B10A, the Internet LED flashes red for a split second and never comes back on although I do have a solid orange sync LED on.

Mine is fine but if you use the link below you'll see there is a big problem -

https://downdetector.co.uk/status/talktalk/

@whassis @boultsstudio @TalkTalk Hi just wondering if your Internet is still down? Concerned it might just be mine after all this time! I'm north Norfolk too and I have had no response from talk talk.

@_k4lly @TalkTalk my internet is down in downham market. Would be helpful if I could contact you, called 3 times and tried the live chat. Great customer service.

@SteveWh33434739 @TalkTalk @rix_jack Same here near Swaffham, what’s happening @TalkTalk. No internet since yesterday morning.
2022-01-16 16:06:59

@Rosemarywatt @TalkTalk Hello, we are struggling with our router. Could you kindly advise on whether this issue is linked to the wider issue in the area?
2022-01-16 16:01:56

@trismorphew @TalkTalk internet down PE38? Looks like people having problems.
2022-01-16 15:52:48

@gemlouisedrew @Dannie55781344 @TalkTalk I'm in the PE32 area and mine - as well as several others - has been off since 2pm yesterday. They keep telling me there's no outage in my area and want to run diagnostic checks on my line ? there's clearly a bigger problem than a dodgy router here, but they wont listen to me ?
2022-01-16 15:51:13

@rix_jack @Hhhhhhh74314524 @TalkTalk TalkTalk fibre is down in Downham Market for me. Seems to be problems all over West Norfolk. TalkTalk support stopped responding to me over Twitter DM also.
2022-01-16 15:50:21

@gemlouisedrew @oliw @TalkTalk I just keep getting told by them there's no outage in my area. 25 hours without internet for myself and others would suggest otherwise...
2022-01-16 15:46:11

@gemlouisedrew @Hhhhhhh74314524 @TalkTalk I have tried to tell them the PE32 postcode is having internet problems, but they keep telling me there is no outage in my area ???‍♀️ 25 hours and counting now with no internet...working from home tomorrow will be interesting.
2022-01-16 15:43:36

@Hhhhhhh74314524 @TalkTalk any estimate as to when the problems will be resolved

I don't get it, fibre is marked quite clearly as being fibre.  How thick do you have to be to break it before realising its not copper?

And quite possibly with worse less eyesight than they had before.

The crooks and vandals are thick. So are the fibre bundles. From an American site, vandalism is at least the third highest cause of fibre outages.
3. Vandalism
Sometimes it seems that the world is full of idiots who think it is fun to destroy property – even though it is likely to cut internet access to their own homes or communities.

According to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) there have been more than a thousand malicious attacks that led to severe outages between 2007 and 2014 in the United States. And that only counts incidents that affect at least 900,000 minutes of user calls or 911 services.

From people who dig up fiber thinking it can be resold, to those who use cables for target practice, a large proportion of avoidable network damage comes from the very people that would be on the phone complaining of a lack of service. Or they would, if they hadn’t just trashed the network they rely on...

Yeah in America I've heard about the "target practice" thing before, they even do it to high-voltage cables which is insane as if it actually broke they could end up dead or killing someone else.

Some years ago a moron dug up the fibre that goes under Loch Carrann, hoping to sell the non-existent copper.

Horrendous. All the grief these fools cause. I'm assuming that they were after copper?

An idiot cut into a fibre cable where it emerges from the shore of the sea-loch Loch Carrann a few years ago. After copper. Caused some thankfully limited chaos, cut various vital local services off. Somehow I myself was unaffected even though users a few miles away who were much nearer to the Broadford exchange, which serves me, were stuffed completely.
