Curious - looking at you sig (assuming up to date), what's the plan for the existing FTTC / 4G backup and Draytek upgrade, the 2925 will support upto 300Mb/s?

The existing FTTC will go as will the 4G. I will replace the router in due course if it limits my thruput.

Hi G3uiss

The draytek WAN ports (2) are 1000mb/s each as are the 5 Lan ports.

The limiting factor would be the firewall throughput at 300mb/s

That said, I think you would be hard pressed to notice the difference between 300 and 500 speeds download but would notice a small speed increase in 50 to 70 upload, subject to the system you are uploading been able to cope with a upload speed of 70mb/s.

We went with BT 300/50 as it suits our needs easily and that's just a few pounds cheaper then BT 950/100 but this was based on we look after clients on 950/100 and most speed is not used.

I hope you enjoy your FTTP

Many thanks

John

Hi John.

Thanks for comment. I was aware of the limitations and was intending to see what the “real world” results were. Like you I’m a big fan of Draytecs, and if I feel I’m missing some bandwidth I will purchase a 2927.

I’m sure you can restore the config file from a 2925 and make it easy, as I have some VPN’s configured. That gives me a “hot” spare !

I looked at many options and the Cerebus 500/70 was such good value although I rarely will use all the bandwidth.

When it goes live I will offer my HF612,s here.

Hope your well

Tony

Hi Tony

That's a lovely router and more then do the job.

I think you cannot transfer between router classes though, but I think there is an option to export/backup VPN settings and import/restore as you can for lan etc...

Glad you finally have FTTP

Many thanks

Yes I think your right but firewall, VPN are possible as you say, and they are the tricky ones.

Draytec 2527 now installed and configuration aided by export of VPN settings. Some great new features. So much for the price, besides the 1.8gb firewall thruput  :P

No not wireless as I have a number of Unifi APs around the property. The 2925 was but I disabled the WLAN.

Ah, OK. I have 2927ax and was hoping to use use the wireless for wireless WAN connection. I wrongly assumed would be available on the ax, but only on the ac, so will need another plan for backup 4G  connection.
