I'm not sure exactly what that Zyxel message means, it may just be that the PPP side is down. The PPP details need to go in one device or the other or it's never going to work.

Yes, the PPPOE details are input during the Google Nest WiFi Router set up process. But even after I do that it complains of No Internet connection and suggests I reboot the modem.

Any chance of a screenshot of your network interface groups?

Here you go.
There is an ADSL and an Ethernet one and they are on their default settings.

I would delete the ADSL and ETHWAN interfaces as they aren't needed.

If the Zyxel is correctly configured in bridge mode and is syncing with the DSLAM then any authentication issues lie entirely with the router.

Do you have another router you could test?
If not could you connect the DSL patch cable from the Zyxel directly to a PC and try adding the PPP details directly to the PC to see if it authenticates.

I have deleted the ADSL and ETHWAN options.

I don't have another router but happy to try with a laptop.
How do I connect the router and laptop? Standard ethernet from LAN port to LAN port?

OK. I figured it out and now have my laptop connected to the internet via the Zyxel having set up a new broadband connection on the laptop and entering my PPPOE credentials.
So we have proved that the Zyxel is indeed connected to broadband, even though it still reports "Connection Down". I just need to get the google router to play ball.

Good progress has been made.

So we have proved that the Zyxel is indeed connected to broadband, even though it still reports "Connection Down".

Thinking about it, I believe that it is a common feature of most (if not all) ZyXEL devices to report "Connection Down" when configured in bridge modem only mode.

@TylerDurden So where are you entering the PPPoE username and password for your connection, I have a vague memory that the set-up is done via some cloud app, i could be wrong but if this is the case you need an internet connection for it to work which you haven't got because you can't set it up. There is a work around, by using another router to connect to the internet, or even by reconfiguring the zyxel as a router to allow the Nest to be setup in when it is in access point mode then reconfigure the zyxel to a bridge modem. There have been many discussions about this on the net and a lot of people just give in and don't use the Google nest as a router or just get rid of it.

I said the Google Nest set up was a nightmare in an earlier post when you couldn't get the HG612 working on G.Fast. >:(
