to me, paul.j.gardiner

Mr *********,

Further to my previous email, I have reviewed the local infrastructure and associated plans.

Currently there are no plans to overlay your postcode area with FTTP, however this may change.

The other postcode you mention is being picked up under a Retro New Sites build programme, a small build to bring Ultra-Fast to customers with FTTC only.

I will contact the Retro New Sites team and see if there are any plans to extend the build in the future.

Kind regards,

Max, the variances with your speed of around 2-3Mb are negligible.   You should know by now how SRA works.  Its not going to make the slightest difference to how you use your connection.

I can't believe that yet again. you are pestering Clive Selley's office.   You should know by now that it's not going to make things happen any sooner, nor will they be able to give you any more info.   Can you imagine if everyone did this - they do not make any special exceptions for Maxdsl.

>>  I will think very hard to decided with three options:

Its not yet May, but we've been over this before and no matter what we recommend, you still seem to ignore what we say... then you regret it.

You don't need 330/50, nor can you afford it.  Also, because you can't get the full 330 it feeds your addiction to check stats which just stresses you out.   No matter what you say, you just cannot resist checking your speeds and then you get worked up if the speed decreases.  It should be discounted because it really is not suitable for you.

You may as well forget about 40/10 too.   You wont be happy on that and will be moaning and itching to switch in a short timespan.  You will never, ever be content with 40/10 when you know other options are out there.

I thought you were going to stop all this nonsense, what hardship has this relatively small drop in speed caused you answer nothing stop checking your speeds and go and do something useful with your life like you promised you would in the last thread you made about your speeds.

Thank goodness he's on g.FAST, he'd have a complete breakdown on mobile broadband, the speed is all over the place.

You wont be happy on that and will be moaning and itching to switch in a short timespan.  You will never, ever be content with 40/10 when you know other options are out there.

Presumably why he wishes he could get FTTP.  Thing is, even that wouldn't solve it, I see plenty of people moaning that they are on Gigabit and only pulling x speed from y service.  Some people just can't accept that consumer broadband is a contended, best-effort service.

I mean sure, I chase the speed, but I don't fret about it.  It took me over a year to even consider asking Zen to reset the DLM and even then it was months after my drop wire was replaced.

We just want you to relax and stop fretting over things out of your control and have zero impact on your usage of the Internet to begin with.

I fear downgrading wont solve it because you're too fixated, you upgraded against advice in the first place after saying you wouldn't.  I'm really not sure what advice to offer to take your mind off all this.

Plusnet staff well known Gandalf did advise me not to switch over to unchained isp from plusnet for g.fast as he was very worried about me getting fret over uneven speed with g.fast and think fttc 80/20 should be fine for my own need and gandalf think g fast isn't the worth the money. But he did say if I ever wish to come back to plusnet in May then he will be more than happy to placed the order for me to switch back to plusnet.

Maybe tell your doctor that you can’t stop obsessing over your internet connection speed? Seriously, could make you a lot more comfortable.

Try mine for a bit:

Modems:: Live sync rates:
  #1: downstream 2.902 Mbps, upstream 673 kbps
  #2: downstream 2.946 Mbps, upstream 531 kbps
  #4: downstream 3.082 Mbps, upstream 396 kbps

* Estimated combined IP PDU rate totals (*):
     downstream:  7.503 Mbps ( at 95% MLF ),
         upstream:  1.344 Mbps ( at 95% MLF ).

------------------------------------------------------------------------

(*) Calculated from:
   IP PDU rate = sync rate × protocol efficiency × MLF;
   where :
   *   protocol efficiency = 0.884434 ⇐ (

      assumed PDU size = 1500 bytes,
      DSL header overhead = 32 bytes

It will be fine max.   I'm currently banded at 60Mbps on 80/20.   Have been for over a year, but right now I have other things going on and worrying about DLM just isnt worth the time taking to submit a ticket.    I do a lot of streaming and I still have 20 upstream if I needed for the site.  60Mbps is more than enough for HDTV.  I never have any buffering issues even if there is something else going on in the background.   If there is just you again, I'd imagine my usage is more than yours.

Ironically I could get FTTP, its been here a while... but just right now my health isnt good and over the past year I've have to pay people & carers to do things I can no longer do myself... so paying more for broadband when this connection works perfectly well seems pointless.  I can't even drive and struggle with many day to day tasks now,  I rely on many smart home features (heating & lights) and all my shopping has to be online.  I  have a Lifeline pendant and a Vibby watch fall detector so my broadband connection is absolutely vital to help me retain some form of independence.   Despite the dependency and entertainment streaming, forking out more £ for a connection on which I'd hardly see any difference with is false economy.

Looking at the BT Home Essentials website it says "Average speeds up to 67Mbps" which suggests its an 80/20 service. For the money that looks like a great deal if you are eligible.

I agree with Kitz. Forget G.fast, forget FTTP. BT Home Essentials 80/20 FTTC will be all good enough for me in May with average speed of 67. Still good price £20 a month inc line rental. Once I move back to FTTC. Then I can forget the speed test, dsl stats because I know I had FTTC 80/20 always at max speed for 7 years with Plusnet and if the line was banded at 74 or 67 but still average speed of 67 will be fine anyway.

You were happy to consider home essentials at 40/10 for the price. If it is actually 80/20 that's a bonus and for as long as your actual speeds stay above 40/10 just enjoy it and stop obsessing.
