I think that works. It's been a while since I used an HG612.
It will definitely negotiate sync with the DSLAM in its default state.
It's configured as a plug and play bridge mode modem. Just connect a router to LAN 1 and away you go.

@TylerDurden Just another thought. Do you have G.Fast or just normal FTTC? If the former, the HG612 won't work.

Ok. I have reset the Hg612 but no DSL light is on. The XDSL page just shows "initializing"

@licquorice I have a 140mb connection. That's probably G.Fast isn't it!
Oh well, what modem should I have bought?
I have an ebay search active for the vmg8324-b10a,vmg8924-b10a and vmg1312-b10a. Would they work?

Yes you have G.Fast. It won't work.
The HG612 only has 100Mb ports. It was released years before G.Fast was even invented.

The Openreach version for G.Fast is a Huawei MT992.
They can't be unlocked though.

None of the 3 you mention there will work either.

There are other G.Fast modems available. Search for "G.Fast modem". They are usually £100+

Thanks for the help guys.

I just picked up a Zyxel XMG3927-B50A on ebay.
I'll probably need help setting that up when it arrives!.

Hope it was a good choice. 🤞

I don't think the VMG8825 supports G.Fast, the spec only mentions ADSL & VDSL.

Hi smallal, this manual agrees with you: https://manual-hub.com/manuals/zyxel-vmg8825-bx0a-02-pdf-manual/

It states only the xmg3927 supports g.fast, even though both devices use the same broadcom chipset...

From what I've seen of Zyxel modem/router model numbers AMGxxxx = ADSL, VMGxxxx = ADSL/VDSL, XMGxxxx  = ADSL/VDSL/G.Fast.

Not sure what those particular Zyxels use but the likes of the Broadcom BCM63138 comes in quite a few variants, including G.Fast and non G.Fast supporting versions.

The Technicolour DGA4130 I bought 2-3 years ago had a BCM63138 but the chipset didn't support G.Fast.

Broadcom have done that kind of thing for years unfortunately.
