Sneachda
« on: November 28, 2021, 09:30:13 AM »

Lying on the ground, light frosting yesterday after north wind. Looking east towards the atlantic (the Linne Shléibhteach) between Skye and the mainland, and then the mainland mountains behind it. In the foreground is a mound just below the house and then behind it are the moors of Skye before the sea. On the right, in the middle distance you can just about make out houses of Druim Fheàrna (Alder Ridge). Went to look at a house there, it was in the middle of a stream, water flowing down the field through the grass around the house. It’s  was very pokey with a rusty stove inside; no sale.

In the garden, Janet has built a contraption that she calls a sitooterie because you can "sit ootside in it". She imitates the vernacular of the lowlands here. It’s a garden seat for two persons, with a roof over it and there is a small branch from a tree across the top at the front just below the roof edge. Small birds come and land on the branch and then transfer to nut dispensers that are hanging from the sitooterie roof and there they are safe from Pangur Bán, Thomas and Buidheag.

This morning, there was roughly 1 in of snow on the roof of the sitooterie, but the day’s sun may well have reduced that. It was already dark again when I awoke.

There was a light dusting of snow here, in East Anglia, before I retired to my bed last night (Nov 27th). The eventual bright sun, from around 1200 - 1400 hours, dispersed most of the snow. But I fully expect ice to form, tonight (Nov 28th - 29th).

[Edited to specify what was "last night" and "tonight".]

I'll take a guess at Sheffield.

Indeed, on one of the hills.
