But, the rules, red tape and general bureaucracy that prevented OF from getting help and screwed up t'other Dave's pension etc, is justy so frustrating.

Actually, strangely enough I didn't mind, because it gave me the kick start that I needed and do something I had been thinking of for a long time, and that was to move abroad, but with a house to keep and probably only getting it wrecked if it was rented out was holding me back.

Yes I did move abroad but unfortunately there was not enough work to keep me going during the winter period, so I came back (unfortunately).

It was one of those situations where there was plenty of work during the summer, as the locals were too laid back and never in a hurry to start, let alone finish a job, but come the winter, work was always given to the locals first and only as a last resort given to foreigners.  (which strangely enough, I totally agree with).
But it was a nice six months while it lasted.

Kate, I have never given up my socialist principles, but these days it seems the Labour party has... I find myself more in tune with the Liberals for now.

I'll second that!   Whatever happened to the true Socialist ideal of a fairer world for all?  An equal chance regardless of background?  This current lot can't hold a candle to those stalwarts of the past who must be spinning in their graves right now!

Yes long gone are the days when the Labour Party had true socialists such as Nye Bevin, Michael Foot, Tony Benn, Barbara Castle, Harold Wilson, et al, in government.

Winter fuel allowance, why is it not credited direct to peoples energy  bills instead of being given out in a cash lump sum.People can then spend the money as they wish(pub, christmas, holiday etc)which is ok,but then you get them moaning in January that they can't afford to keep warm.

I can never understand why there are usually two tarrifs on energy bills.
Use X amount of units and then all the rest are a lot cheaper.

For energy saving incentives why don't they let you have the X amount of units at the cheap rate and then charge more for the rest that you use? Thus those who use most energy in a quarter would be encouaged to use less and so save a larger sum of money.

Wow! Why didn't I think of that! Could be an MP yet.  :P
