OPENING .MBD FILES
« on: August 10, 2008, 06:32:48 PM »

I have just found a cd, in a drawer, that I cannot identify & cannot remember whether it is something I have copied, downloaded, or been given. When opened it contains many files which are not titled, simply numbered & with .mbd file extension. Windows will not open them nor will any other program on my pc except open office, which just gives a load of gobbledygook.  I am loathe to throw it away& wondered if there is a generic programme that will open files with this extension or would I have to have the programme that created the files in order to open them? Thanks  :(

jj,
.mbd is a file extension associated with Multimedia Builder MP3 Authoring files.

You can download it from:

http://mmb.mediachance.com/files/mmbld49...

For what it's worth, if you just 'came across' the CD and it was not you who wrote to it, I would use it as a bird scarer amongst your berries. (Sorry TD, but you know what I mean)
Tuftedduck (Tuffty) gets a bit touchy when we talk about scaring his feathered friends off.  ;D

thanks for the link Dave unfortunately I just get" page not found" when I try to open it. Are you saying that, as I suspected, the programme that created the file is needed to open these type of files? Thanks :(

Try this one:

A trial version can also be obtained from here:
Just look down on the left-hand side for "Download"

Thanks oldfogey, tried that program, but unfortunately it detected that the files have "a security layer" & cannot be opened. I really haven't a clue what they are but it is getting more intriguing all the time. Sorry tuftedduck, but it looks like I may have no other option ;)

Have you had a look at the properties to see if that helps.

Sorry I can't help much with this problem, especially as it's not a program I'm familiar with.

No disrespect to anyone, but are we sure it's a audio file and not a movie file?
or, have you tried changing the extension to say, .mp3 (after making a copy of one of the files)
it might be worth trying, but on the other hand, they are something that you didn't know you had, so will you miss them if you throw them away?

But no-doubt like myself, you are now curious and wont give in to easily.
