Kitz,
I'm a bit like you, failed to renew subs because newbies were getting a special offer of some thing free (forgot what, and it was not something I wanted), but they would not offer me it so I did not renew.
Just had a look at the subs page and posted this in the CA forums:

Just looked at the subscription site:
http://www.vnusubs.co.uk/
And things don't quite add up.
6 months subscription £11.95
12 months subscription £24.95
But if I took out 6 months then renewed it:
2 x £11.95 = £23.90
So why do CA charge £1.05 more for paying for a years subs?
Does Tom know?
dave

Not right good at maffs addin'up, are they?

Dave,

If I remember correctly that error was pointed out to them a long time ago. (possibly over a year ago)
But much like the rest of the site, they might get around to fixing it "one day"

I think that might have been the free mousemat (at least 2 years ago).

No, newbies are always offered something.
Their reasoning probably as in Dave's case was that subscribers get a discount on the shop price.

Issue 272 = A free puzzle game worth £9.99
Issue 273 = A free back CA issue CD Rom + 3 issues for only 3p!

I jumped at the free copy of Personal Computer World with a free DVD Rom with about 10 or 12 "Great Bonus Programs" on it. You had to phone up with the code from the flyer in CA and the guy then offered to let you have another three issues, all with DVD Roms for £1.
I agreed the standing order for the quid and as soon as the free issue and then the first of the "three for a pound" arrived, I wrote to my bank and also to PCW to cancel my 'subscription' which was OK and I still got the other two with DVD Roms. Most of the programs are 'basic' starter packs but some are limited (6 months) full versions of some very good software. Certainly worth a quid!  :P

I got a free maglite torch with my subscription renewal about three years ago, I had to let it lapse though first.  Torch is handy for going to the loo on campsites ;D

I don't think any freebie will persuade me to renew again, I can read everything of interest to me in about five minutes, I used to get at least an hour out of it

Agreed.

Have just been looking for a way of cancelling on-line, but no joy at the moment.
Just plenty of ways to subscribe, surely that can't be right.

Phil,
Just write to your bank cancelling any Standing Order or D/D and when your subs is due and they don't get paid they soon stop sending the magazine.
You could also write to them and say you are cancelling. send email, it's cheaper. The subscription email addy is, iirc, inside the back page,

Thanks Dave.

Actually I just dug-up an old thread from 2006 (which was one that as it happens was one you started) with a bit of info in it where a subscription was still taken because of not cancelling with both bank and CA.

Although I have used that thread it is not aimed any way at you, merely to point out that the repairs are still a on-going promise.

I have my subscription number somewhere, so will be sending them an email as well.
With regards to the bank, I think I can do that on-line, but not too sure with it being a DD,

edit:
Well that was painless, both now cancelled and confirmation received from VNU.

I posted the email addy over the road but this is it:
vnu[at]subscriptions.co.uk
[at] = @

The snailmail addy is
CA Subs
Tower House
Sovereign Park
Market Harborough
LE16 9EF

As Kate pointed out, D/D and S/O are different so tell CA and tell your bank too.

Ah I was referring to a freebie that once came with the shop issue of the magazine, which the subscribers (unfairly IMO) didn't get.

Not Read CA for ages... much prefer MicroMart these days.

I am still subscribing to CA. I like to read through it. For the price of it, I don't mind. Some things crap, but most is OK for ME. I am also on their forums and find them very helpful, (also kiz's forum by the way), as I'm sure most on this forum are/were.
