Please help with interpreting my line stats

I have been having problems with getting stable and consistent sync speeds for some time.

After contacting my ISP and a subsequent visit from Openreach engineer on 20 July, my download (not sync) speeds varied between 30 - 37 Mbps up until late August. Since then the sync speed has fallen back to 27 Mbps (download speed around 24 Mbps). Prior to the engineer's visit I was getting 15 Mbps.

Things are obviously better than they were at the start of the summer, but I'm wondering why the improvement I experienced during late July and August has not been maintained.

I have recently swapped out my OR supplied ECI modem for a Hauwei HG612 in order that I can get some stats (thanks to Kitz et al for making this possible).

I haven't yet got to grips with understanding the stats and would be grateful for any help and advice.

I assume a Huawei cabinet as G.INP is active on the DS side.
I am wondering if, with a sync speed of 32399 and SNR 8.6, it's banded?
If you do a single resync does it sit at the exact same sync speed again, as that would confirm it?

You are quite right. Sorry about that. Last night the sync was 27. I ran the stats again just before posting earlier and, as I was in a hurry to go out, didn't think to check whether there had been any change.

Yes Huawei cabinet is about 700 metres away (approx 1.7 km to exchange as crow flies).

In the last three days I made two attempts at re-sync - the first I powered the modem down for approx 15 mins; the second I powered down for 60 minutes. On both occasions it re-synced at the same speed (i.e. 27 Mbps).

The uptick in sync overnight was not prompted by a resync attempt by me. Had I noticed the improvement, I would have held off posting.

I've probably run short of patience in the last few months and had assumed that my sync was going back down to where it started earlier in the summer (i.e. around 15 Mbps). If sync were to settle at 32, I'd be content.

I'd recommend leaving the line alone for a while and letting the line management do its thing.

Repost the stats next weekend and we'll have a better idea of what has happened over the last 7 days.

If the line is stable after a while, the line management might lower your SNR and you could get more speed.

Avoid temptation to reset etc. and it will be possible to offer a more informed opinion on what we are seeing next week.

It does look like the line is banded at 32.4Mbps, so without CP intervention to request a DLM reset the speed is unlikely to change in the near future. Banding can be hard to get rid of once it has been applied, there could be a very long wait for DLM to remove it. :(

As suggested, I will repost line stats at the end of next weekend.

FYI ....

My FTTC service is advertised as "average download speed of 36 Mb" - I think a 'faster' service is available (subject to availability / line conditions). Until I raised a support call with my ISP this summer, my speeds had always been well below the advertised average and the advertised 'guaranteed minimum' for the service.

I'm not in the habit of re-syncing the connection. I have done it only three times this summer. The first occasion was back in July when I replaced my router. More recently (on 8th Sept) I swapped out the ECI modem for the Huawei model and disconnected for 15 minutes. When I noticed just over 24 hours later that sync was at exactly the same speed as before the modem swap, I decided to disconnect again - this time for an hour. On reconnecting the sync speed was again as before (27 Mbps). A further 24 hours later the connection / sync speed had been reset to 32 Mbps without any intervention on my part.

On the issue of banding and resets, when the OR engineer came in July he said that he had 'reset' my line. For a month after this, I was getting download speeds (not sync - on ECI modem so line stats) of between 30 and 37 Mbps. When the speed dropped in mid-August my ISP said that there was a 'line profile mismatch' and that they were asking OR to correct this - not at all clear what this meant, but it seemed to have little or no impact, which is why I ended up on Kitz.

Moreover, it seems much MUCH harder to get rid of on ECI rather than Huawei.  Both my lines are banded now for no obvious reason, my Zen line in particular has always been rock-solid stable.  Though to be fair, they are both banded at a point where 6dB SNRm is achieved, but I can't manually push them lower.  Makes me wonder if on ECI they consider going below 6dB as a reason to band the line.

That will be based upon either the Openreach 40/10 Mbps or the Openreach 55/10 Mbps product.

As an example, here follows the first 19 lines of the statistics for my FTTC service which is based on the Openreach 40/10 Mbps product --

Notice how the downstream and upstream SNRM are both greater than the 6 dB target, the Bearer 0 line shows the circuit is synchronised at 40/9.9 Mbps and the Max line (which is just an estimate) shows the circuit could "give a little bit more".
