The OpenWrt Community is proud to present the OpenWrt 21.02 stable version series. It is the successor of the previous 19.07 stable major release.

The OpenWrt 21.02 series focuses on bringing all supported targets to Linux kernel version 5.4 and introducing WPA 3 support into default images.

It seems to still only be on a limited number of routers though.  Not having it on Lantiq and most Atheros basically discounts a lot of hardware, every single one of mine for one.  (though it does mean I don't yet have to worry about reconfiguring from scratch)

DSA made it to Lantiq,  just a bit late: https://www.mail-archive.com/openwrt-devel@lists.openwrt.org/msg59220.html

Have you upgraded your Unifi 6?

Guess I wont be updating my HH5a from now on then, seems a pointless hassle to have to reconfigure them from scratch.

I want to flash OpenWRT to my NanoHD but as some people seemed to brick it, I'm wary.  I also want to be sure it performs at least as well as on stock firmware first and nobody seems to mention its performance.

The instructions on the git are not clear: https://git.openwrt.org/?p=openwrt/openwrt.git;a=commit;h=4c8446bf39de99990847eb4bc7744e25835a34f5

The Xiaomi Mi R4A uses pretty much the same chipset and has lots of issues on OpenWRT: https://forum.openwrt.org/t/xiaomi-mi-router-4a-gigabit-edition-r4ag-r4a-gigabit-fully-supported-and-flashable-with-openwrtinvasion/36685

only 2 differences is the flash on the Unifi is twice the size of the Xiaomi and the 5ghz wifi chip is different.

People have posted how you downgrade the boot loader first by flashing old official firmware, set the boot priority on the partition and flash OpenWRT.  But its a lot a spots to make a mistake when its my main AP and completely pointless without knowing the performance is going to satisfactory first.
