Meet Sandra: https://centerforgreatapes.org/orangutan/sandra/

My wife bought me a sponsorship for my birthday, so I now sponsor Sandra’s care every year. Janet of course knew that I’ve always been mad about primates ever since I was a boy, when I had a book about primates and used to visit the stunning collection at Twycross Zoo in Leicestershire, not too far away, whenever I could.

Sandra was in Brazil where she was the first orangutan in the world to get legal rights _as a person_. Unfortunately she lost those rights when she moved to the USA but that is where the Center for Great Apes is, which is by far the best place for her care.

Look into her eyes and one can see her intelligence.  :)

Aww what a thoughtful gift.
I spotted how old she is - 36 which prompted me to look up their life expectancy which can be up to 50 in the wild and 60+ in captivity.

You probably remember that my Daughter looks after the  Orangutans at Colchester Zoo  :)
She did her 'Uni Dissertation at Twycross. It's about 30 minutes away for us.

I remember you telling us about your daughter looking after primates but I had forgotten which species and where. I’m still very jealous.
