TTB Gfast
« on: July 14, 2021, 05:52:32 PM »

Just had a phone call from TTB saying that Gfast is available on my cab. Didn't give much detail. Anyone else got it? How much a month, is there an installation fee. Sort of caught me on the hop?

ISP review state: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2020/11/isp-talktalk-business-launch-new-ultrafast-broadband-plans.html

Quote
Business Ultrafast Fibre 150
Download speed 145Mbps
Upload speed 25Mbps

PRICE: £23.95 for the first 12 months of service and £29.95 for the next 12 (£34.95 thereafter)

Business Ultrafast Fibre 300
Download speed 290Mbps
Upload speed 40Mbps

PRICE: £23.95 for the first 12 months of service and £34.95 for the next 12 (£39.95 thereafter)

Cannot see an installation fee mentioned.

In regards to your question has anyone got it, yes I know of dozens, works really well, as long as you view it as an upto service, so put to 145 down or 290 download speed

@Banger  It may be available on your cab but are you near enough to get G.Fast speeds, if you don't get full FTTC sync speeds of 80/20 then you will not get decent G.Fast speeds. It only works at up to around 200 Metres from the PCP cab. Have you looked at the BT Wholesale checker to see if it gives any speed estimates, if it doesn't you may be too far away to get it.

I am getting 64/12 on current line. He said I was in line for 150 down on Gfast. Do you keep your landline and is that included in the cost? He caught me having me tea lol

Do you get G.Fast estimates for your address on the BT Wholesale Availability Checker?

Nope John I am not even on the telephone list. Address just shows VDSL and ADSL. Maybe not on the dB yet.

I wouldn't be too sure of 150Mbps if you only get 64 on FTTC, it's the same copper line for G.Fast no change needed. I would hang on until FTTP comes, G,Fast was a bit of stop gap technology, just so that BT could claim similar speeds to Virgin. I wouldn't go for it even if it was available. Although I sync at 80Mbps my line length is 450 metres or so so I doubt if G.Fast would work.

If you are on TalkTalk you need to use the address checker, TT numbers are not recognised.

That's what I was thinking. I told the account manager if it was full fibre I would jump at an upgrade. He wasn't particularly insistent about it so maybe there is a clue in his attitude. Address checker doesn't show Gfast.

This^
You will be using higher frequencies than the vdsl2 spectrum, there comes a point when the line performs worse on g.fast than vdsl2.
Also it will affect your max upload speed.

Address checker doesn't show Gfast.

It doesn't show even if your cab is enabled.... but Openreach deem your line unsuitable and too far from the cab.

TTB have a g.fast checker, but it's not for customers, only internal, partners and resellers.
It also throws up some weird results from time to time, it'll state a line can only have g.fast if an engineer attends but not available for self install or managed install.

Banger's account manager probably has this big spreadsheet of customers that have flagged as possible g.fast capable

No none of that Lesley. Only FTTC and FTTPod.

I have similar speeds and I'm too far away for G.Fast, will suspect you are too.

Meant to contribute to this earlier but my account manager got it wrong. It seems that it not available to me.

No none of that Lesley. Only FTTC and FTTPod.

I suspected that it wouldn't show on the checker due to distance... even if the cab is enabled.

We have g.fast here but doesn't show for me either as line is unsuitable. Currently banded at 60/20Mbps, but  should be around 66Mbps.
Total Attenuation:       13.9 dB           12.8 dB
Aside from the banding, Most of my speed loss is through crosstalk and I have no bit load after tone ~4000

Suspect it will have been rejected even if he had tried to place an order.  Thanks for the update.
