Using a Zyxel GS1900-10HP as a router
« on: July 09, 2021, 11:22:05 AM »

I have this switch, and after reading https://openwrt.org/toh/zyxel/gs1900-10hp

I've seen I can run it as a router with 8 Poe ports and two SFP ports.

There's a long development thread here if anyone wants a read https://forum.openwrt.org/t/support-for-rtl838x-based-managed-switches/57875

I'm off to test network throughput on LAN and WAN.

I'm keeping a close eye on OpenWRT moving to switches as I was quite frustrated my Netgear GS110EMX (Smart Manage Plus) doesn't support SNMP but the Netgear MS510TXPP (Smart Managed Pro) does.

I think having the key difference being Plus vs Pro in the name is extremely confusing from a consumers point of view, especially as from the UI they mostly offer similar features.  Even the Pro misses useful stats from SNMP, such as being able to see the PoE load on the ports which is extremely annoying.

OpenWRT also has a FAR simpler VLAN configuration than the clunky Netgear UI.
