I'd love to know, completely baffled.  But its Apple, maybe in their infinite wisdom they decided to make an exclusive version designed to fail more easily? ;)  Even for them, it seems unlikely.

@parkdale neither of us could travel as i’m confined to bed and Janet is always around looking after me in case I need pain relief. If anyone else is travelling to civilisation then that would be excellent.

There are Apple Stores in Glasgow and Edinburgh, the nearest to me being around 200 mi away, so that’s a 400 mi round trip.

Possible causes are now looking like fluff in the socket or a mechanical defect in the third party plug such as being too big or small. As your fingers and nails are not up to the task of prising it out look to some sort of tool. A penknife blade on either side might lever it.

I most certainly did not go for using a tool such as a level because that amount of force on the iPad socket might succeed in breaking the iPad.
