Enabling DNS over HTTPS

(1/1)

Bowdon:
I was watching a video of how to enable DNS over HTTPS on different browsers (video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1uvOihSaj4 ).

There is a couple of test sites to check the browser is working correctly after.

I noticed when I set it up I had an insecure connection even though the cloudflare server was working. I figured out what the problem was for me, I was using googles DNS servers. So I changed the setting in network properties to automatically obtain dns settings from isp, and after that my connection was secured.

I'm using Adguard's DNS over HTTPS service: https://adguard.com/en/blog/encrypted-dns-ios-14.html
They offer 3 versions, ad and malware filtered, adult filtered and not filtered.

I'm then using their DNS over TLS for my Android devices: https://kb.adguard.com/en/dns/setup-guide you just put dns.adguard.com in your private dns address on your Android, and all DNS is routed over TLS.

For my home network, I'm running Adguard Home, this allows DoH, DoT and experimental Quic.

Just in case anyone else is trying to find the relevant Cloudflare test-page, it is https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/ssl/encrypted-sni/

Of course its not foolproof, as I use plain DNS over the LAN and TLS from the router to Cloudflare.  So it thinks my queries aren't encrypted when in fact they are, where it matters.

Same here, DoH...
