I'd love to know, completely baffled.  But its Apple, maybe in their infinite wisdom they decided to make an exclusive version designed to fail more easily? ;)  Even for them, it seems unlikely.

Possible causes are now looking like fluff in the socket or a mechanical defect in the third party plug such as being too big or small. As your fingers and nails are not up to the task of prising it out look to some sort of tool. A penknife blade on either side might lever it.

I most certainly did not go for using a tool such as a level because that amount of force on the iPad socket might succeed in breaking the iPad.
