FF/IE7/McAfee
« on: August 02, 2008, 10:43:14 AM »

Hi all ,when I use to have IE7 as my browser Mcafee use to remove between 20 and 30 tracking cookies when I did my weekly scan.Since I have been using FireFox Mcafee finds nothing to remove on its weekly scan.My question is this,is FireFox more secure than IE7?

The short answer is YES!

I noticed a big difference when i moved over to Firefox... most of the malware scanners find beggar all tracking cookies, or other carp for that matter.

Well it was Kate(Scottiesmum) who twisted my arm(with all the trouble I caused her and TD I think they wanted to twist my neck)  :D
Must admit I am well impressed with FF,especially how much faster web pages load.  :)

  Unc ....

I use quite a number of Add-ons ...  other users would probably think a lot of them are unnecessary, but I tend to treat add-ons like gadgets !! and I love gadgets !!!   None of them seem to take up a lot of resources .... I have the Morning Coffee add-on which loads all my regular tabs on opening FF.  Ad-Block Plus is another one which I find useful for stopping annoying ads. I also have Image Show/Hide which is virtually the same as Ad-Block, but gets rid of ALL the images on a web page at the click of the button.     I have No Squint where I can increase text size for some of the extremely ineligible pages I come across now and again at the click of a button. WOT tells me the trustworthiness of site ... not sure it's necessary but it's interesting :: :D  I use Fox Clocks which for me is extremely useful as I 'phone people in the Ukraine, Portugal, Canada, the UK and NSW  .. and I have all their time zones  at a glance.    I also have Flag Fox which again is probably definitely not necessary but I  do find it interesting to see the location of the different serves...  I've had a few surprises with that one !   I use Fast Dial and find that very useful for storing sites that I want to get to quickly.  Favicon Picker  is definitely a gadget ... ;D   but I like it ....  I imagine a lot of people are shaking their heads   but it really is horses for courses ...some are very good for security purposes ..others for 'fun' ... I cannot get along with the IE tab at all  ... it makes FF crash ...but up to now I've not noticed any problems without it.   Anyway hope this helps and gives you some ideas  .....and not lead you astray

It's all a matter of personal preference, I have:

British English Dictionary
Adblock Plus
Downthemall (downloads manager)
IE Tab (so you can switch to the IE engine when sites don't display correctly in FF)
Tiny URL Creator

I use Fast Dial

lol that one caught me out..   Having used Operas Speed dial for many years I installed FF's Fast dial.
What caught me out is wondering why I would have pop-ups telling me I had a PM on various forum sites that I wasnt even visiting at the time.
What I later realised is that unlike Operas speeddial which keeps a cached image copy, FF's Fast dial actually makes a connection to the site every time you open a fresh instance of FF.
So therefore it was automatically logging me into this forum each time I opened FF, even if I wasnt viewing the site.

SearchBox Companion is another FF add-on that I use often, as it highlights the text youve searched for on a page.
