Old O R modem from plusnet on any isp
« on: May 15, 2021, 07:16:05 AM »

Hi
I have the old O R modem i got from plusnet when they gave out modems and routers
Im thinking of plugging it back in and linking a cable router with cat wan port to it

Will this work and is the modem a pn locked modem or can i use it on any isp
The street cab is Huawei and if i remember right so is the modem

If so will the router stop any tr69 requests restarting the Huawei

Yes it will work and no you can't block TR69 without unlocking the firmware on the OR modem and turning it off in there.

I wouldn't worry about that. They are never ever remotely restarted, or updated, or anything similar.

There's also no tr-069 as such.
OpenReach used another method to update these modems but they are very very old and no longer maintained.

I'll probably unlock it as soon as i can

So is tr69 and remote management off an option in the gui or cli

If i use a O R modem and new 3rd party router with its tr69 off and its wan firewall on can the modem see my lan devices

I ask because i had a incedent a few years ago with the first all in one from PN
Involving tr69 and my pcs coming on in the night

They must have seen my lan macs or ips
This was right after tr69 was used and pn didnt let users set a pw

You can remove the VLAN used for TR069.  I can't remember now if the btagent itself is removed in the custom firmware, I think it is.

You can remove the VLAN used for TR069.

Just delete the VLAN with the 301 numeric tag. It was used by the BTagent and the TR-069 process.

Whats the best firmware to use

Take a look at the opening post of this thread and the "Note by Admin".

Basically you should use the most recent firmware package that Wolfy built.

If you have trouble obtaining a copy of the image just let me know. I'm sure I've got a copy, safely archived, in the "WhatNot".

Thanks
Up with the birds to start this
So
1) download the firmware
2) pull the internet from my 3rd party router
3) cat up the O R modem and connect to the cable wan port on the router and a second port for flash/hack/stats
4) hack
5) update fw
Then when done plug the modem vdsl2 cable in to the copper

Info about which f/w you need to use are on the HG612 unlock guide page with a link to it.  There's also an important reminder not to upgrade via the WebGUI.

Quote
If you have an unlocked Hg612 and G.INP has been applied to your line then you must upgrade to f/w version B030SP08 - See Howlingwolf's forum post here for more information and link to B030SP08 firmware.
Remember that you cannot upgrade this firmware via the web GUI but must re-perform the unlock procedure for the new firmware to update correctly.

There's also a diagram that shows you how to connect the cables to your router and which ports to use on the same page.
