Evening biting
« on: April 28, 2021, 11:47:48 PM »

I’ve asked for thoughts before and Kitz gave me something to think about concerning the fact that Somhairle, one of my two oriental shorthair tomcats, bites Pangur Bán on the back every day. But something just occurred to me: it’s always at the same time every day - when they settle down together on my lap when I’m in bed in the late evening - it’s then when Somhairle does the biting thing, and never at any other time. After having been bitten, Pangur Bán goes and sits on a shelf while we tick Somhairle off, Pangur Bán has a little something to eat and then he soon comes back to cuddle up on my knee with Somhairle once again. After that they’re fine throughout the night and they are good together all day. One theory is that it’s something to do with an argument over the toasty warm spot - kick the other cat off the patch warmed up, but then why not do the same thing in the daytime? Bizarre.

Sounds like a cats hierarchy thing to me, with Somhairle just confirming who is in charge.

I think you’re right. Why only that particular time of day though ?
