Idnet SOGEA FTTC will not go to 3dB
« on: April 17, 2021, 09:02:46 AM »

Hi all,

My original post was here - but so as not to hijack the other thread...

My line is still at 6dB, now in sync for 17 days. Any thoughts to get this to move to 3dB?

Thanks

You could try capping the downstream.
This reduces some of the error counters and can nudge the DLM towards a lower dB target.

The DLM is completely automated.
The default target is 6dB and some lines will just never move from 6dB.
There's nothing any ISP can do to help unfortunately.

I've seen the sync rate capping work quite a few times.
Cap the downstream at 40Mb for a week and hopefully the DLM moves.

You have almost 1000 upstream error seconds a day.  Does DLM look at the downstream only?

The thing that is curious is that I moved in to this house 2 months ago, however I checked the line stats when the previous owner was in situ and it was syncd at 58Mbps.

When OR commissioned my line they didn’t change the pairs to the cab.

So I was expecting to see a similar sync.

48 is actually below the hand back threshold for this line according to the by checker. 55-58 is the minimum range shown.

The other thing is the previous owner had the master socket in a different place. BT line came through the wall, it then went on an excessive amount of cable through a load of mains wires to the previous master socket where is was jellied and on extension wiring over to where they wanted the master socket to be.

I had BT take all that out and stick me a new master socket directly where the cable came through the wall. So you’d think that would be better than it was previously.

The previous owner was using a micro filter where as I just have the Modem plugged straight in the BT socket on one of these https://www.run-it-direct.co.uk/adsl-vdsl-patch-leads/adslvdslbtcat5patchlead1m/ Again you’d think this would be better :-)

Edit: I’ve put a micro filter on it to see if it makes any difference
