List of all speeds offered by major UK ISPs
« on: November 01, 2021, 06:43:57 PM »

Apologies if a list such as this already exists, but I couldn't find an up to date one.  Also, apologies for any mistakes or omissions - please let me know and I'll correct.

I'm ignoring the "altnet" fibre suppliers, which typically offer symmetrical speeds up to 1Gbps.

Percentage figure is upload as a percentage of download.

Openreach VDSL/FTTC:

0.5/0.5 (100%) [Intended for VOIP-only customers]
18/2 (11%)  [Not available for new supply]
40/2 (5%)
40/10 (25%)
55/10 (18%)
80/20 (25%)

Openreach G.Fast:

160/30 (19%)
330/50 (15%)

Openreach FTTP:

0.5/0.5 (100%) [Intended for VOIP-only customers]
115/20 (17%)
220/30 (14%)
550/75 (14%)
1000/115 (11.5%)

Openreach FTTP (premium)

550/115 (23%)
1000/220 (22%)

Virgin Media Residential:

M50 - 50/5 (10%)
M100 - 108/10 (9%)
M200 - 213/20 (9%)
M350 - 362/36 (10%)
M500 - 512/36 (7%)
M600 - 630/41 (6.5%)
GIG1 - 1130/52 (4.6%)

Virgin Media Business:

Voom Fibre 1 - 350/20 (5.7%)
Voom Fibre 2 - 350/30 (8.6%)
Voom Fibre 3 - 350/40 (11%)
Voom 500 Business - 500/50 (10%)

4G/5G mobile:

I've no idea how to describe these, as the real-world and theory are much further apart than other technologies, and deployments are constantly evolving.

Best source I can find is Ookla's median speed results, showing:

Three 5G - 231.07/13.65
Vodafone 5G - 159.49/19.59
EE 5G - 151.03/18.42
O2 5G - 155.54/11.74

EDITS:

* Added 40/2
* Added 18/2
* Added 0.5/0.5

That's a useful list - thanks.
What would also be nice to know is which FTTC speeds various ISPs offer as I know not all offer the three the OpenReach can supply.

I agree that would be interesting, but would involve digging through all those marketing websites, trying to understand what their "fibre" broadband offerings with average speeds actually are.  No thanks :-)

I just visited BT's website, and was directed through their checker, which tells me I can get "3Mb - 7Mb Broadband", so I can't even see their other offers.  I currently have VDSL, with the full 80/20 sync, and I'm sure I got around 15Mbits/s back when I was on ADSL.

Will you be listing EoFTTC and SOGEA?

40/2 still exists on FTTC.
Apparently BT Wholesale have stopped selling it though.

Will you be listing EoFTTC and SOGEA?

Both are only available over the same speed tiers listed above.

OpenReach don't actually sell EoFTTC.
Providers buy a normal FTTC circuit and sell it to the customer as EoFTTC.
A provider that sells 20/20 on EoFTTC actually buys 80/20.

Listing every available package on EoFTTC isn't practical as BT Wholesale will sell you 20/20, burstable to anything you want, 30/20, 40/20, etc.
The underlying OpenReach tiers are the same.

SOGEA/SOGFast are available at the exact same tiers as FTTC/G.Fast minus the 40/2 product.

Thanks, I've added it.

Openreach did sell a 18/2 FTTC product at one time. I'm not sure if it is still available to order.

EoFTTC is available as 3/3 but I think that is TalkTalk Business Only.

That's Talktalk buying 40/10 and rate limiting the connection then.
There's nothing available below 40/2.

ADSL2+ Annex M can come close, but I don't know if that's ever been available at 3Mb/s in the UK.
That would be EoADSL anyway  :D

Plusnet used to sell 40/20. It never existed. They bought 80/20 and rate limited the line to 40Mb/s.

OpenReach FTTC price list

It's still on their price list but it's not available for new supply so I didn't bother mentioning it.

If memory serves me correctly it was only available on cabinets with low ADSL estimates and maybe also for customers on the Chelsea exchange at the time of it's closure/relocation.

I've added 18/2 for completeness (with a note).

There is also a 0.5Mbps service to support the withdrawal of the PTSN - for those who don't want an internet service

Thanks - so Openreach do offer symmetrical services!  Although I see they still only claim "up to" 0.5Mbits/s here.

I'm amused its under "Super-fast Fibre Access briefings".

I wonder if that service gets VoIP priority?
