Fritz box 7530
« on: March 16, 2021, 05:03:24 PM »

I've just moved to Zen and had an interesting 24 hours because of this router.

The connection went live around 00:30 and using the connection felt good. Set up the tbb Broadband Quality Monitor and went to bed happy.

Next day I saw this:

Long story cut short: the Fritz box throws a hissy fit if you ping it too quickly and thinks it's some kind of attack.

Set up my NAS box which is always on with IPv6, and am now monitoring that and all looks fine.

For completeness: monitoring the Fritz box using IPv6 wasn't any better:

Long story cut short: the Fritz box throws a hissy fit if you ping it too quickly and thinks it's some kind of attack.

I've seen a few posts on ThinkBroadband about Fritzbox's doing that and then experienced the same myself about a year ago.

If you have a BQM and Zens ping monitoring running at the same time, or even 2 BQM's, the Fritzbox has a habit of blocking the inbound pings.

This is the Fritzbox I monitor. It seems to work ok with a single BQM running.
It's IPV4.

Zen's ping monitoring? I haven't found that.

I also use https://f8lure.mouselike.org/ because of it's option for emails on line up/down.

Zen's ping monitoring? I haven't found that.

I think they only use it for troubleshooting, after you contact them for support.

Apparently the problem is worse if the pings are coming from 2 sources according to ajays (from Zen) in this post...

Thanks for that link (that thread turned ugly!).

I now have tbb monitoring the router using IPv4, a second tbb monitor of the NAS box using IPv6 and f8lure also monitoring the NAS box using IPv6 (with emails turned on).
