Maximum FTTC speed?
« on: March 14, 2021, 10:07:51 AM »

I've just moved house, I'm on the 40/10 product at the moment.

Can somebody tell me what my maximum speed might be if I got the 80/20 product? Line stats are attached.

Straight line distance following the road on Google Maps has me on a 270m line length.

Depends on the cabinet type and if the line is currently interleaved or not.
Also what modem are those stats from?

If not Interleaved and the attainable on that modem is accurate the line will reach around 62Mb.
Possibly 70-75Mb with a 3dB profile (if Huawei cabinet and stable).

It's from a TalkTalk Wi-Fi Hub, I believe it's a Huawei cabinet.

You can get an idea of what you can get on your line with the BT Wholesale Broadband Availability checker since it you're likely on a BT Openreach line.

In my experience that's next to worthless.

Huh, had a resync this morning and now seem to be on the 80/20 product. I didn’t do anything.

Code: [Select]
Downstream Upstream
Actual Rate [Kbps] 63186 19065
Maximum Rate [Kbps] 61638 19065
Noise Margin [dB] 6.10 5.90
Attenuation [dB] 16.30 0.00
Power [dBm] 12.60 6.50

Is this down to crosstalk? I get around the same sync on my line in my other home that has vectoring on it but that’s over double the length. Upstream here is a lot better mind.

No, your line was clearly capable of this from the stats before and was limited by the profile.  For some reason your profile has been changed by the ISP so its now maxing out.

You misunderstood my question, I would have expected a higher sync on 80/20 on a 300m line (?). So is the sync speed NOW down to crosstalk?

I would say that is likely to be the issue. Of course you are still at 6dB SNR so hopefully more speed will be available soon.

Many thanks, I'm not too fussed to be honest, more curious.

My 800m line at home must be very good to sync so high and I guess it just shows how good vectoring is.

Connection has been up for 15 days now without a disconnection, no change to the lower SNR target yet, should I just wait a bit longer?

From what information I have been given, TalkTalk in general had a profiling issue last month on new FTTC installs, they were being artificially limited to 40/10.

I was going to say the maximum attainable upstream in the first post looked odd, perhaps that's why.

Definitely.  Crosstalk can severely affect dsl sync speeds.
I've gone from a max attainable of >110Mbps currently syncing at 60Mbps.   It's mostly been eroded as more lines got connected by various amounts.  Largest loss in one go, was ~12Mpbs when my neighbour got FTTC.
