Dump File for ZyXEL VMG1312-B10B or -B10A
« on: March 13, 2021, 02:33:07 PM »

Hi. I have a Zyxel modem model VMG1312-B10B. When I tried to update the firmware, unfortunately, the modem did not boot anymore and its power light blinked. I ask you to help me and send me the modem flash file to program it, because I did not find anything when I searched. Thank you.

I've never seen a firmware file for a VMG1312-B10B.

We have the VMG1312-B10A in the UK.

VMG1312-B10A firmware will probably brick a VMG1312-B10B

If it's the B10A version you have then the firmware is available at - ftp://ftp2.zyxel.com/
If it's a B10B version then we don't have them in the UK so probably can't be of much help.

Which firmware exactly have you tried ?

According to the firmware release note, the V1.00(AAJZ.6)C1 is also compatibile with VMG1312-B10B

Here the steps to use tftp.

Good luck!

@Mohammad

Try searching online if there is an explanation how to start tftp in recovery mode - as the modem doesn't boot correctly. You might also need to use a USB to TTL cable...

Hopefully some other member of this forum will be able to provide additional help.

I wonder if the 30 s reset procedure works for this modem same as the VMG 1312-B10A?

This is the recovery procedure that I use

* iPad to 192.168.1.11 / 255.255.255.0 / gateway 192.168.1.1 by choosing manual and then hit manual again after entering the values
* Plug ethernet cable into modem’s port 2 or 3 and into main switch
* Unplug router if any from main switch
* Power the modem off
* insert a pokey implement into the modem’s reset hole to depress the switch (there is a similarly sized but protruding WPS)
* Power modem on, keeping poker poked in all the time still
* Keeping poker in, LED will flash for 20s then go solid red
* Release poker
* If the device is left in the solid red light mode then a recovery page should appear at http://192.168.1.1, but only if the ethernet cable is connected to port 2 or 3. Port 1 or is it 4 -which is it -will not work, depending on which way you read the port numbering. (I think the port on the far right is the bad one.)
* file selector prompt, select the firmware file
* After you hit enter at the load firmware prompt, after so many secs the screen should change to show a [back] button. (If not, then you may have put cable in the wrong port, so check it is in port 2 or 3)
* Takes forever to blow flash, no UI feedback
* after 2 mins the modem will reboot (no progress indication)
* When the modem web UI comes up, at http://192.168.1.1: log in with username=admin, password=1234
* Forcible password change, set password to standard admin password
* using menu option "configuration" > "restore", choose the XML config
* When you have waited for a minute or so, hit refresh in browser
* you have to make sure you go back into the the "configuration" menu again, then modem will reboot
* Modem’s IP address will now change - it will be wrong when the modem boots, so set your machine to 192.168.n.11 / 255.255.255.0 / gateway 192.168.1.1
* When the modem config is loaded, check for the good version string in the "system" menu (top menu on extreme right)
* telnet into modem, log in as "supervisor", with supervisor password
* Telnet CLI : Enter the command :  save_default clean
* All done
