Plusnet Static IP Line profile
« on: February 26, 2021, 11:35:14 AM »

Before my drop wire was replaced, my line speed (on the Plusnet portal) seemed to track my sync rate so I never queried it.
However, since conditions have improved my line speed is showing 68.8Mbit but the sync rate is 71.3Mbit.

That sounds about right for throughput vs sync rate so makes sense if that is their throttling rate, but is that normally how it works?
It seems a bit confusing to call it "line speed", would make more sense to call it "target throughput", although I guess the idea is the customer is not supposed to know their sync rate so line speed is easier for the average user to understand?

Problem is, I'm still only getting 56Mbit down the Plusnet connection, the same speed I had before.  So is the line speed even reflecting their profile in the first place?

Interesting.

I'm currently synced at 64822 down, but my Current Line Speed according to the PN Portal is:
Current Line Speed (Download): 56Mbps (from https://www.plus.net/member-centre/broadband).

I know there are overheads to take into consideration, but that seems to be a bit low.

The BT Wholesale Advanced test shows IP Profile for your line is 59.35Mbps

Plusnet Current Line Speed should match this closely, IIRC, so looks like mine has taken a hit and not recovered, although I don't have the historical data to back that up. My connection has been up for 81 days; I did have a couple of disconnections in December so I rebooted the router and it has been up ever since.

I have a static IP, and, also IIRC, the automatic update of PN Current Line Speed does not work on static IP circuits.

Time to go on the PN Forum and request an adjustment.

That's the thing, I clearly see my Current Line Speed change, but like you say its not matching the Openreach Line Profile which surely it should be.

Sync rate is the RAW data rate with no accounting for the overhead from headers and framing, so the sync rate should always be greater than the download rate!

Were not talking about the sync rate, were talking about the line profile whose entire purpose is to account for those overheads and ensure data isnt coming into the DSLAM faster than it can be delivered to the end user.  Plusnet should not be throttling below the line profile.

Well this was unexpected.  The banding on my Plusnet line got removed which is allowing the HH5a with the tweaked SNRm to sync as follows:

It took a few days, but the Plusnet line profile updated too so my Plusnet line amusingly is now running faster than my Zen, even though my Zen line has better stats (but is still banded).

My parents line are the same. Their IP Profile from BTw are 38.66 but PN Current Line speed are 36.5 throughput are 34.7 as the ISPreview has updated say PN speed at the bottom ten (very downfall lately)
