I wonder if this applies to existing equipment needing replacing when it fails?  Its not like you can just slap another vendor in the mix if the entire upstream infrastructure is Huawei.

Is this an over-reaction? Can they really get remote-controlled or remotely hacked/crashed/DOSed by Chinese evil-doers? i don’t know either way. I wonder why the kit cannot be security-reviewed by inspection, maybe hardware is questionable?

This looks purely political.

Does this stop any Huawei cabinets being installed to supplement ECI?

No. Huawei cabinets are still being installed.

Huawei are OpenReach's only active Vendor for FTTC.
Not a single ECI cabinet has been installed since 2016.

They are still deploying tens of thousands of Huawei FTTP lines every month also.

Huawei dont just supply telecoms kit ! - This is pure political b.s incited by the Americans, I think that you would not find a single telecoms provider whose kit isnt in part manufactured in China.
What about their mobile phones, routers, switches, voip, storage etc  - the same argument applies across the board.
