Landline fault???
« on: January 09, 2021, 02:38:22 PM »

Apologies for posting here, i couldn't find a relative forum.

I have a fault with our landline I think.
We have twin BT phones and cannot get a line out (no buzzing.
I'm thinking the phones might be faulty, but maybe the actual line in?
Is there a way of testing the line oneself, rather than wait on the phone for 1/2 hour for customer service?
We can use our mobiles, but there are peeps that often call us on the landline.

Thanks in anticipation.

Some rather obvious suggestions:

Phone land line from mobile, does phone ring, can you answer & talk?

Do you get a dial tone?
(appreciate that on some DECT phones it's difficult to establish this, better with a wired phone)

Substitute phone, preferably with wired phone.
(may be able to borrow from relatives/neighbour if you don't happen to own one)

Try BT line test, 17070, ringback option.

Plug (wired) test phone directly into test socket and repeat tests if dial tone appears.

I always keep a cheap wired phone I got from Argos on hand for testing the landline.
