Interleaving over night?
« on: February 04, 2021, 10:15:10 PM »

As the title suggests, I was downloading something earlier and noticed it wasn't going over a certain speed and thought "Huh, odd" so when the download completed I logged into my Vigor modem to see my speed had dropped and running VDSL ST command it gave me back this

I don't recall when this used to say but I know my speed was above 70Mb

Also [with Vectoring support] - I don't ever recall seeing this either, has my line had vectoring applied to it? I am on an ECI exchange so i'd be surprised if this is the case.

I hope my interleaving goes down. If anyone can give any insight to this much appreciated :)

p.s. I did shortly before grabbing these line stats power off and on the modem just to verify it wasn't some weird bug in the firmware. Speed went from 62 to 63 (no difference).

p.s.s. Modem is a Vigor 2762

I read the line as saying that the firmware version currently installed (07-07-09-05-01-07) has vectoring support built into it and not that vectoring support has been enabled on your circuit.

The above is a clear indication that your line connects via a cabinet equipped with an ECI Hi-FOCuS Mini-Shelf M41 electronics.

That would make more sense and is most likely the case, I did have a big doubt that I would have vectoring on my line but wishful thinking  ::)

Not sure I've ever seen Interleaving enable in just one direction before.

Are you sure you aren't getting mixed up?

On the FTTC DLM it's almost always the downstream only. They are treated completely independently (there needs to be both high DS & US ES for Interleaving to be applied to both).

I can't remember the last time I saw the FTTC DLM activate Interleaving on the upstream.

Quick search of the forum and the last dozen or so Interleaving threads have it applied to the downstream only.

Ah, checking my logs it looks like I only had Interleaving on Digital Region which would explain it.

Not sure I've ever seen Interleaving enable in just one direction before.

I have had Zen run a line test and they can't see any observable faults, looks like it might have just been a blip somewhere. Heres hoping interleaving gets removed and my speed returns.

I remember seeing a page on the kitz homepage talking about how to figure out the speed impact made by looking at the interleave depth and doing a calculation to figure out the impact on the speed?

Also judging by my download speed being impacting I am assuming here that interleaving was applied to my downstream?

Yes you see that here:

Ah yes I see, I find it hard to look at text like this (I blame dyslexia)

I never know but is that considered quite a bad interleave depth? I have seen people on this forum with much higher, but curious if there is something that is considered "bad".

It is interesting to me that your line has done the same thing as mine at almost the same time!

Mine was running fast path and about 48 CRC errors per day. Then I get interleve applied which has taken the sync speed down below the ISP hand back speed. The sync speed has for about 4 years been in the "impacted range" but the ISP says that is completely normal and there is nothing they can do (pre covid)...

Best of luck in you returning to Fastpath in the next few days.

Thanks

Are you also on Zen?

Interesting.... I am in Newcastle Upon Tyne, I wonder if perhaps Zen has had an issue somewhere on their network?

Or perhaps just a coincidence

UPDATE:

I have logged into my Zen account, I have been marked for a "Network migration" which was applied on the 18th of Jan this year? Its still showing in progress, I wonder if Zen have done a DLM reset on my line from perhaps swapping me over?
