I don't use mine for wifi, but that's to do with my house not the router. It worked well when I did use it prior to getting my mesh system.

So what's wrong with it?

Guys, the 5GHz wifi channel is there and available, but it's only single channel and so limited to (theoretical) 54Mb/s. The 2.4GHz is fine at 140Mb/s. I've been used to the TT Hub providing bonded(?) channels for 1400Mb/s on the 5GHz band, so maybe it's just that it's older and only uses single channel. If that's the case, so be it.....

p.s. Stuart, any comment on the fw version?

Are you sure it's not set to 802.11a only, as that would explain the 54Mbps top speed. Not sure where that setting is on your GUI but it's under 'Others' on the 5GHz wifi on my VMG8924.
It's definitely not a single channel only device.
 :)

Edited to add - I suspect setting it to 20 MHz channel width on the 5GHz side might do this too, as changing mine from 80MHz to 40MHz moves it from '802.11a/n/ac' to '802.11a/n' in the 'Others' tab' if that makes sense (haven't tried 20MHz to see what that does).

thanks both...

I'm on V5.13(AAVF.13)J1 fw..I can't see what version is on that one linked to..

I'll have to have more of a delve into the UI and see what's there....

Yes the 5ghz  setting on the 3925 is on Wireless Others tab where you can set the mode.

found some similar settings, but when changing & applying those settings, the UI seems to be struggling to implement the changes and I've had to power off a couple of times...I did manage to get the 2.4 signal to go multi-channel, but so far not the 5 GHz :( having the opportunity to play is limited, but will keep plugging away :)

p.s. if anyone has any suggestions on which fw may work better, I'm all ears....

p.p.s. anyone know of a d/l link for the v14 linked to through the a&a page linked to earlier?

If the GUI crashes, which is not unknown on ZyXEL routers, then wait a few seconds and manually refresh the page. You shouldn't need to reboot, at least I've never had to.

Generally a bad idea to enable wide channels on 2.4Ghz unless there are no other networks in range.  Too many routers ignore the rules on auto-disabling that function if it clashes with another network.

Yes, I did it inadvertently, thought I was on the 5GHz settings....the UI is a drop-down choice between the two to alter settings, was on the wrong one

...however, I couldn't get the 5GHz to do it, even though the 2.4 did!!!

The settings look correct so it should work. I assume there's not another router in close proximity broadcasting on the same channel?

yes, the bl00dy SkyQ box, that creates it's own 5GHz to connect the remote boxes to it :(  This was the source of the TT hub moving itself to ch.100 (my other thread about needing a new router) and away from all the client's wifi adapters...it's across chs 36-48..fixed

If I could get the Zyxel to operate on 52-64 that would be ideal.....

It looks like you've set the Zyxel to channel 52, so if that's still not working it might be because you have the sideband set to 'lower'. Try upper sideband setting to see if that makes a difference. It'd also be worth turning the Sky Q off for a bit just to confirm that it is that causing the problems.

Thanks, I'll give it a try when I get chance....(i.e. when the Holy Sky box can be safely turned off lol)
