The recent report on gigabit broadband from the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee made depressing reading. The Government cut its planned £5 billion funding to 2025 for the roll-out of gigabit broadband, with a new target of 85% of premises and funding of only £1.25 billion. Even the reduced targets are in doubt. There is an opportunity for communities to 'do it themselves' and fully fund an FTTP network using Government vouchers.
