Lost upstream sync over the years but have vectoring
« on: December 18, 2020, 04:47:41 PM »

I've mentioned to a few people before that when I first got FTTC, I could sync over 10Mb but over the years I've lost a couple of megabits.

Now, I don't really mind but I am more curious than anything as to why this might be? I managed to track down some stats from back in 2015 when I could still sync over 10Mb. I think this was prior to having vectoring.

If I can get the same stats now, will somebody be able to explain for my curiosity, why I have lost some upstream sync over the years?

What's odd is my downstream sync is a lot better now, it's in the high 50s/low 60s, almost like some of my upstream has gone to my downstream.

Nobody can help then? I will post my stats, or is that what you're waiting for? :)

For my info or just as I understand is that vectoring and cross-talk are just after one thing which is the download speed, though I saw a line stats in my country where the attainable upload speed jumped from ~40mbps to ~80mbps (also download from ~140mbps to ~220mbps) after applying vectoring but it is still in roll out stage so I can not find any other lines to compare before/after including my line which still shows vectoring status 5 (fully unconfigured).

How much did download speed increase after vectoring?

Who is your ISP and what are your stats now?

Vectoring is definitely done on the upstream.
I've seen some good gains from Vectoring on the upstream.

There's a great article explaining Vectoring and the differences between how the upstream and downstream is done.

Not really what I asked though, I was curious why my upstream sync is lower than when I started on FTTC in 2015. Perhaps it's as simple as the line just getting poorer over time.

Not really what I asked though

That was aimed at the comment about Vectoring only being for the Downstream.

Vectoring helps mitigate crosstalk.
It doesn't cancel it completely.

Your upstream is lower because there are more users on the cabinet.
Some will have modems that don't do Vectoring or aren't Vectoring friendly, making things even worse.

There are modems that don't obey UPBO (Upstream Power Back Off) rules that can make the upstream drop quite a bit.

Probably every line in the country has seen their upstream sync or attainable drop since 2015 levels. Even Vectored lines.

Finally, an answer! We got there in the end.
