FTTC 100mbps on ~100m copper length!?!
« on: December 21, 2020, 05:56:13 PM »

Hello Kitizens, wishing you all happy holidays and a Merry Christmas 🎄🎅🏻.

So now it is the old mystery again but with getting line stats from the tp-link vr400 (v2) on dslstats * my package is 100/10 but recently my line sync. is 100/20 even on lower packages (could this be a DLM bug or some sort of testing line capability?)  ,, and now here is magic:

I am not from UK, but though something may appear from behind figures and graphs that is causing the line to attain and sync. 100+mbps.

VDSL2 Profile 17a can sync up to 100/50, nothing really unusual about that other than your ISP not capping your upload as you expected.

I used to get 100/30 at 200m.

Ah, Thanks for that I thought it is only theoretical and speeds are lower on actual provided service even the short lines.

Ah, Thanks for that I thought it is only theoretical and speeds are lower on actual provided service even the short lines.

Well it kinda is thanks to crosstalk.  As this was a failed local council project (it was ahead of its time and poorly advertised) so me and my friend were probably the only people on the cabinet.

While I cannot compare like for like (as that cabinet was removed due to the financial failure of the network), on the same line to a different cabinet (this time a standard BT/Openreach one) I'm only able to achieve 67/24.8 (limited to 67/20).

You can see the different states my line was in on that old network:

My current stats (not the same modem so the stats are formatted differently):

The higher attainable rate quoted above is due to my modem having an SNRm offset applied, so its calculating what I should sync at if DLM had not blocked my line from syncing below 6dB.  :'(

Yes I see, my line attainable speed was ~155mbps but few months later it dropped to ~125mbps, I am connected to a small Huawei cabinet so I guess fewer lines means less cross-talk and I notice that when the power cut in my area the attainable speed jumps to ~150mbps again and SNR increases (my router powered by a UPS).

That is a definite indicator of cross-talk affecting your circuit.

Yup, no vectoring applied (yet) hoping since my ISP is willing to provide 200mbps speed that would mean applying vectoring as there is no other way to do that on FTTC.

Actually 17a has a theoretical maximum of 150/50Mbps. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDSL#VDSL2

Right I forgot, it can also do 100/100, but I don't think those settings have ever been used on an actual public telephone system.
