Browser help
« on: December 14, 2020, 04:09:29 PM »

Hi

Hoping somebody can assist with my plea ??

I'm running quite an old Mac OS (Lion - V10.7.5), and as this is unsupported I've noticed things disappearing, slowing up etc etc. I've googled which browsers are best for this antiquated OS, but any that I install still wont open once I've downloaded them ??

Any ideas or thoughts on what is the best browser and where to download it from, please ??

This thread might be of help BS.
Lots of suggestions in there for a browser for your OS and it's pretty recent

Not a mac user myself so can't offer my own advice

I just use Safari myself.

Problem is Safari will be an outdated version due to the OS no longer being supported, whereas a third-party browser will have the latest features and security fixes.  Using old versions of browsers is a bad idea.

ESR = Extended Support Release.

As your OS is so out of date and no longer supported it would be good practice to use a browser with continued support.

From reading that thread i would recommend trying Firefox Legacy.

Firefox Legacy can be downloaded here
https://parrotgeek.com/fxlegacy.html

You want to download Firefox ESR 68 which supports OS X 10.7 Lion: 68.12.0p2 (2020-09-11)

The direct download link is here: https://parrotgeek.com/dl.php?file=FirefoxLegacy68.12.0p2.zip

Hi j0hn

Thank you for the added contribution, appreciate the help.

As an aside and with my limited knowledge of this side of the fence, I did hone in on that same link to 'Firefox Legacy' myself. But it won't open as it's for OS 8.0 or above ... mine is 7.5. Damn it !!!

Any other thoughts please, j0hn ??

There is anothe older Firefox on https://parrotgeek.com/fxlegacy.html just a bit further down the page from V68 which may work.

Read my last post again BS  :)

V71 is for Lion 10.8 but just below that is v68 which is for Lion 10.7

Or just download from this link:

j0hn - well i never !!! I have literally just done that other download (took me 5mins to set up) and i can't begin to tell you the difference it's made !!! The speed of sites loading up, the fact I can access 'Messenger' on FB that I couldn't previously .... it's just bl00dy brilliant !!!

I got slightly confuddled with your first post, but very chuffed that I've eventually got a working Mac again (I don't tend to use this one as much as the one downstairs ... but probably will now).

Many thanks for the education j0hn, and thanks Stuart for additional input ... appreciate the posts.  ;D ;D ;D
