finally got a MAC from BT after 5 emails requesting it.  in the end i had to resort to threatening to report them to ofcom.

had another look around and sky seem to be a good choice atm.  8meg bb and free anytime telephone call for £34.00.

thats £16.00 cheeper than bt!

Sky BB is aparently very good! Have you considered they Upto 16meg Bband? £5 more than the 8meg but it is unlimited?

Pwigglers connection may not be able to support the higher speeds, at 42dB attentuation he's already on the limits somewhere around 8Mbps, although he may push a lil bit more with adsl2.

>> but it is unlimited?

Its not unlimited - they have a FUP policy, which admittedly is fairly generous at around 250GB.
If pwiggler does less than 40GB per month (which the vast majority of users do), then theres no point him paying for the extra.

Nowadays even I don't use 40GB (P2P torrents)

It's always far better to start on a low/lower contract, then upgrade at a later date if necessary.
If they can't supply what you have asked for, it could be hard work arguing the fact they are not providing a certain service to get your fee reduced.
Wheras they will soon upgrade you without any problem.

At least that way you will have been able to run the checks needed etc.
Although Kitz has already pointed out the stats (which I don't understand so am saying no more on that subject)

A few months ago, when I was also looking for a new ISP, there only seemed to be 2 that was of interest to me, "BE" and "Sky", unfortunately BE is not in my area, but Sky looked very promising.
The only reason I eventually did not change was because circumstances changed with VM.

@of, Likewise, I don't really download 40gb in a month, I don't use p2p or torrents or anything really Bandwidth hungry, just download the odd song or video/movie from iTunes.

@kitz, sorry, I didn't know the state of pwigglers line :-X

However, I though Sky LLU used ADSL2+ on all its broadband services, not just the Upto 16meg one? I maybe wrong? :-\

Yep, that sounds like the "nearly basic package" I also looked at.
But again worked out roughly £14PM cheaper than VM (at the time)

There is also the free BB option, but the limits are a bit on the low side, but that would reduce it by about £10.

OR, Virgin Media?
10MB BB, Telephone & TV (starter package) £24.50.

Just re-read your original post.

no kitz, no LLUs at all, VM tried to get in our village before i moved here but they had a protest about diggiing everywhere up so they were banned.

@OF, yep its the connect package .... spoke to them again last night and got the dish, receiver, 8 meg BB (40gb limit will just about do), free phone calls anytime for £32 in the end so i ordered it.  i can also buy additional tv packages for £1.00 each.

the reason for the change if coz i'll be saving £18 pm and I still cant get over BT lying to me about traffic shaping .. i got quite a bee in my bonnet about it.

just hope i havent jumped out of the frying pan into the fire  :o

oh ... OF ... i was with VM in my last house.  had the BB, phone and TV.

i rang their disconnection dept and asked to cancel everytthing, so they offered to increase my connection from 4meg to 10meg free of charge, i said no so they offered me half price phone line rental, i said no again, then he offered me free tv, half price BB and half price telephone calls.  i again said no so he said i can have thelot for  free for 6 months and if i stay with them they'll apply the discounts they just offered me ....

saved me £40pm !!!

Yes I think Virgin Media will do just about anything to retain a customer.

As with my own recent experience, not only did I save £20.01PM but it also saved all the hassle of not only changing ISP's but also changing Router, Telephone Install and re-routing of line etc etc.
And sometimes, better the devil you know.

But they are also very cunning, because they have now sent me a email thanking me for changing/upgrading my package but also started a new 12 month contract.

Did you not consider Virgin Media this time around to change to?
BB, but through a telephone line.

This is the "Throttling" times for Cable BB.
I don't know if it's the same for ADSL, but I would of thought so.
