It's because you have Vectoring.

There is a specific firmware for some Zyxels with a modem driver that works better with Vectoring.

Someone will hopefully be along to post it shortly.

Edit: what's the exact Zyxel model?
nevermind read the rest of the thread.
An 8324-B10A

You need someone to build you an 8324 firmware with the A2pv6F039v2.d26m modem code.

Perhaps siofjofj might build you 1 if you asked nicely (if he hasn't already that is).

Cheers, now I know what to search for... I think siofjofj might already have built a suitable firmware in this thread: https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,25176.msg427406.html#msg427406

It's labelled VMG8x24-B10A - the software images are the same between the 8324 and 8924 I believe so it "should work"

I'll have a go with it in the next day or so.

Yes, that is correct.

Hopefully, yes.

Yep, the one in that post will do. It has all of johnson's patches, my option 61 patch and the A2pv6F039v2 DSL code. I don't know of any disadvantages of having some of the patches which you don't use, but if you want me to make another that's no problem. Just let me know what you want (for example just the jumbo frames patch with the A2pv6F039v2 DSL code).

Installed siofjofj's firmware this morning, with spectacular results:

Code: [Select]
Stats recorded 27 Dec 2020 10:34:11

DSLAM type / SW version: BDCM:0xa4a1 (164.161) / v0xa4a1
Modem/router firmware:  AnnexA version - A2pv6F039v2.d26a
DSL mode:                VDSL2 Profile 17a
Status:                  Showtime
Uptime:                  0 hour 10 min 51 sec
Resyncs:                2 (since 22 Dec 2020 12:21:08)

Downstream Upstream
Line attenuation (dB):  26.1 0.0
Signal attenuation (dB): Not monitored
Connection speed (kbps): 33610 3485
SNR margin (dB):        4.3 6.0
Power (dBm):            11.7 7.2
Interleave depth:        8 2
INP:                    48.00 46.00
G.INP:                  Enabled Enabled
Vectoring status:        1 (VECT_FULL)

RSCorr/RS (%):          1.4399 0.0070
RSUnCorr/RS (%):        0.0000 0.0000
ES/hour:                0 0

I've never previously had a sync above 30Mbps on this line in the 16 months I've had it, certainly not with >3Mbps upstream too. I now actually have a "superfast" (>30Mbps) broadband connection :)

The downstream SNRM is now sensible too.

There's quite a few FECs so it may end up backing off a bit (especially as night time performance here in the sticks is not great), but it's still a great improvement.

Thanks all for the tips, and especially siofjofj for building the firmware!

You're very welcome, although my part in this was minimal. The very convenient build environment for the VMG images was set up by johnson on this forum, I merely adapted it to use the A2pv6F039v2 DSL code after reasoning that it might be a better choice for vectored lines based on it being the latest firmware for the BCM63168 that is approved by Openreach. In any case, it now looks like there are three of us (myself, yourself, and GigabitEthernet) who are having success with this DSL code on vectored lines.
