New Build FTTP - Recommendations
« on: October 10, 2020, 03:31:09 PM »

I've skimmed some of the other posts in this forum but apologies in advance if some questions have already been answered elsewhere.

So I've exchanged contracts on a new build flat on Friday and legal completion is set for the 30th October. I know already that the development has access to all FTTP speeds (using postcode of the adjacent streets that are fully built and occupied) but my own address comes up but doesn't yet allow anything to be ordered (IDnet have advised that the developer has to contact the Openreach new sites team to progress this).

I'm currently with IDnet on their up to 76mbps at £46pm and have looked at the 300mbps FTTP which is £66pm which is a little bit more than I would like to be paying per month.

Looking around, the likes of BT can be had for £40pm on a 24 month contract but I'm loosing static IP4/6 from IDnet which I have grown fond of. I've looked briefly at Zen which are a little cheaper than IDnet (and have a friend referral which if I went with I could sort out with a fellow forum member here perhaps).

Are there any other FTTP providers that I should be considering outside of the usual mainstream providers (not considering TalkTalk as I just don't like their history of customer service/data breaches etc.)?

So I called Zen the other day and they confirmed my new flat is still at amber status so I can't place any order with them yet. I'm looking to go with the 500mbps package without the voice (have my mobile) so just need to wait to here when things are ready.

If anyone wants a referral, please send me a message and I'll try and remember to add it when I can order.

**Edit** On the referral link, one minute it shows M&S and if I refresh a few times it shows Amazon - https://www.zen.co.uk/refer-a-friend

I've never referred anyone so it would be nice to do so, if I can find my code.

Might be worth double checking if they expire as I'm not sure how long before I would be able to use any link or referral.

Finally, Zen have contacted me this morning to confirm that I can now place my order with them. Now to finally decide on who and what package to go with.

I've had a quick look at Trunk Networks (and Leetline which is their gaming sister offering). They seem a little more expensive, in the IDnet ball park for pricing, but I guess for a smaller company this is to be expected.

I guess the only thing for me now is to do try and get a bit more info on Trunk Networks and try and compare that to Zen. From my brief searches, there are a few reviews for Trunk Networks/Leetline but this isn't much to go on, especially when locking in for a 24 month contract.

Used to be with Trunk Networks on their FTTP 330/50 service, probably the best ISP I've ever been with. Their service and support makes Zen and IDNet look iike budget ISPs. Was getting full line speeds 24/7 (around 310 Mbps), only left them because at the time they were quite expensive (£108/m) but I believe their prices have come down massively now. Might re-join them one day  :)

But you'll get significantly better support on Trunk. But you pays your money...

Thanks for the input psychopomp1. I trust the opinions of a fellow LFC supporter but I think I will go Zen for now. It will be on my list for future to consider Trunk Networks though.

Yeah I will be sticking with Zen once FTTP is available I will be straight on the top package which I'm guessing it quite a bit more expensive on Trunk.

Speaking of I HATE ISPs which hide their prices behind check availability, it makes it impossible to plan for FTTP before its available.
