Car USB charger
« on: October 10, 2020, 08:34:38 AM »

Hi  , I use an old Nexus 7 as a sat nav ( it's about all it's good for ;) ) and it works well , I know GPS uses a lot of power but would have thought constant charging while in use would keep it going but it appears not :( . I've replaced the battery but need a USB charger than can keep up with it , I'm using a charge only cable any ideas on charger or cables cheers .

I'm certainly no expert, but my guess is that the charging interface in the phone may be the limitation, not the charger. I use a modern phone with a UPS-C interface, and car charging has no problem keeping up with the satnav app (I use Sygic).

Hi Noddy, you might want to try this one ... a little bit more expensive, but will(should) work with your N7

https://www.anker.com/uk/products/variant/powerdrive--1-port/A2309011

I bought the power port+ (usb c-c) for the other half's phone which uses IQ charging, 40mins for 100% from empty.

Or you could use a charge bank https://www.anker.com/uk/products/50/73/high-capacity-portable-chargers

Robin

Made too bold a statement!  Anker have 30 day return as well.

Are you talking about charging you phone while in your car ?. you need to change your Title .

Our second car does not have built in Sat-Nav so I have a Tom-Tom.
The cars USB socket is Not powerful enough to charge it so I have a USB charger that plugs into the 12 volt socket .

As others have suggested it could be a lack power from the socket or faulty/low quality cable limiting the charge rate.

Yes I'm using Sygic on the tablet , may be it's the micro usb connection that can't receive enough power ?

Changed it ;)

And with a couple of "paw-pushes" on the relevant buttons the changed subject line is propagated to all of the replies.

Perhaps the cable is the issue if it's along one?

As I said before it doesn't even need to be along cable, just poor quality or damaged. I had a tablet that showed as charging, but never did (previously it charged perfectly on that cable), it turned out to be a faulty cable.

I went through a TON of brand-new cables before finding one to charge my tablet at full current, far too many just don't deliver.

I only buy Anker brand now.
