Worth speed capping?
« on: October 02, 2020, 06:14:13 PM »

My connection has been up for 92 days and I was hoping DLM would have moved me over to low retransmission so I could get up to around 75Mbps throughput.

Is it worth capping my sync to try and tease this out of DLM?

My connection has been up for 92 days and I was hoping DLM would have moved me over to low retransmission so I could get up to around 75Mbps throughput.

You are on G.INP, that should already be getting the best possible out of the line.  I'd imagine you'd have to cap so low to have any chance of it being removed that you would be slower than you are now.

Cap at 60Mb. Leave for 8-11 days.
Should hopefully go Retx Low.

Sync will be similar but throughput better.

It might even change within a couple days. Every line is different.

Do the re-transmissions etc look ok to go ahead and do that?

It's pretty irrelevant.

The point of the cap is to lower whatever errors the DLM is monitoring.
If they are high, capping well lower them.

My rtx_tx rtx_uc LEFTERS and ES were almost identical on Retx Low as they were on Retx High.

The cap just gives DLM a nudge to try Retx Low.
The worst that will happen is it will return to Retx High (or possibly a drop to 4dB but unlikely) but from experience the vast majority of lines stay on Retx Low.

Your retransmits are considerably lower than what my line used to get.
My line sat on 3dB Retx Low from the day it changed to that till the day i ceased my line.
I also needed a cap to get Retx Low.

I'm having great difficulty capping the speed via CLI and DSL Stats.

Every command I type in I get........

xdslcmd configure --maxDataRate 60000 20000 100000
telnetd:error:240.503:processInput:599:unrecognized command xdslcmd configure --maxDataRate 60000 20000 100000

Changed command to xdslctl and it's now capped.

Does DLM only monitor the downstream?  Just noticed i've connected at 19998kbps

It monitors both, but deals with them independently.

The 19,998 sync is just a quirk of the Broadcom chipset.

Have people actually done this on G.INP lines?  I was under the impression its only done when you are on standard Interleaving.

It can be done from what I have seen on here.

Retransmission high is generally applied first on G.INP lines

Low is also available.

Probably about a dozen of us in that thread got DLM to change from Retx High to Retx Low by capping sync.

It can even nudge DLM in to lowering the SNRM target, as we found in that thread.

I have decided when I install my UPS for the modem (probably Wednesday as need to wait for 5m IEC to plug socket lead), I will be lifting the cap on my sync speed and only reapplying it when DLM takes stability action to aid the recovery instead of having it on all the time.  I might leave a small cap in place but it will be much less aggressive.

Since yesterdays cap I have had zero ES on the downstream and 104 on the upstream.

G.INP only applied to the DS.

Are those ES's on the upstream ok for re-tx low?

Yes. The DLM only monitors the downstream when deciding whether to change the downstream Retx values.

The only thing high upstream ES can cause is Retx being enabled on the upstream.

They are treated independently.

I obviously wasn't paying close enough attention, I thought that was with standard interleaving not G.INP.
