Is my Zyxel VMG8924-B10A unbranded?
« on: September 02, 2020, 03:50:09 PM »

Got mine 2nd hand a few years ago but never really knew if it was unbranded or not.

How do I check if mine is and also what is this supervisor password I've been reading about on the forums?

I noticed mine has some zen autofill entries even after a factory reset with custom firmware.

Then it is a Zen branded device and not pure vanilla ZyXEL.

You will need to know the supervisor password and then follow the runes, previously documented in earlier forum posts.

I do not own a VMG8924-B10A so I am unable to provide the precise details. Either perform a forum search . . . or wait for someone to provide a link to the instructions. The information is out there.  ;)

I took a gander at https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,13939.0.html

I'm not sure but I think mine might be already unbranded since I'm able to flash custom firmware directly.

If you see fields pre-populated with Zen's configuration then the device is not pure ZyXEL. Have you cleared ROM-D for your device? If not, then that will be where Zen's configuration is stored.

ROM-D hasn't been cleared yet. I'll do that in due course.

I just discovered my supervisor password now thanks to this thread https://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,19186.120.html

Maintenance > Configuration > ROM-D > Clean configuration to ROM-D > Clean

Is that all I need to do to fully unbrand my router?

Edited to normalise large font size - please don't use giant text, thank you.

I assume you have logged in as Supervisor and turned off the original ISP's TR069 etc settings?

Yes, they were already off  :P

I don't see any ISP settings anymore after clearing ROM-D now though. Just stock zyxel references if any
