Max attainable rate - Plusnet 80/20
« on: August 22, 2020, 09:20:48 AM »

Roll back circa a month, I had an issue on my line and an engineer visited and directly wired my line, bypassing a junction box that had corroded.
This was when I was on a 40/10 connection.  As soon as the engineer had finished, my line sat at 39999/9999 for 17 days.  I also at the time of his visit asked what my line was capable of receiving, that was 60mbps down, matching what my DSL-AC68U was reporting.

As such, I upgraded my package to Plusnet fibre extra (80/20), that went live last Monday - as soon as the switch over happened, my line speed decreased / despite my router still reporting ~60mbps.
I did a bit of research, and it led me to the conclusion that my DSL-AC68U was not compatible with G.INP, hence purchased a HG612 router to run in bridge.

Unfortunately, it has not had the desired outcome, my attainable rate is showing as ~40mbps.  I then reverted back to my DSL-AC68U, and the max down rate reports 60mbps, albeit the connection will not sync any faster than ~43mbps,  as reported below / other stats.

I note, I can adjust the SNR on my AC68U and noted it was set to 3 SNR - if I change it to 6 SNR (HG612 value) I then get max of 53mbps attainable, albeit connection still reporting ~43mbps.

I've raised a ticket with PlusNet, albeit seems to have just sat there unactioned/when I called advised an engineer would investigate.

With that said, can anyone shed some light on this - my current HG612 stats as follows:

Welcome to the forum, Img80 !

I see your downstream SNRM is 6.2 dB. Were you actually seeing a downstream SNRM of 6dB reported or 3dB reported in these figures before? To get any faster speed you need to persuade the DSLAM to reduce the SNRM to 3dB and the system needs to be sufficiently happy with error rates before it will be ok with that.

Moving to the 80/20 service will have initiated a DLM reset and put you on an interleaved connection (the default). Unfortunately your stats appear to indicate that your line is only actually capable of circa 40Mbps anyway so I'm not sure where the engineer got 60Mbps from.
If you leave the line alone then interleaving will hopefully come off in a few days and G.INP will kick in (assuming Huawei cabinet). This should give you more speed, but I don't think you're going to get more than about 45Mbps even then.
Perhaps you could give show us what https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/ thinks your line is capable of (remember to blank out your phone number before copying the stats).

Saying the above, I am a bit concerned by the number of errors on the upstream side of your connection. It's very curious that the most recent 12 mins shown have no errors but the 15 mins previous have 954 ES recorded. I am wondering if something is causing interference - powerline plugs for example?
