Saturday Openreach engineer
« on: August 21, 2020, 12:18:27 PM »

I have just been told that my first ever Openreach Saturday callout has been booked, by AA. Saturday visits are an extremely welcome development; something goes wrong on Friday and I can’t get an engineer until Monday, so, what, three days downtime - half a week. Nightmare.

AA told me today:  “much to our surprise also, BTW are now slowly starting to offer us Saturday appointments.”

One other thing. Can I check my understanding - does an ISP such as AA here talk to BTW then in respect of faults, not directly to Openreach? I am aware that AA buys a complete service for internet communications from BTW. Depending on the commercial relationship with the ISP then, in a case such as this, does everything have to go through BTW then when talking to OR or are there some things where there is directly communications between OR and the ISP?

It might seem more efficient to have all machine-machine comms between CP/ISP and OR direct, but maybe BTW wants to be kept in the loop, for some reason.

The OR engineer who turned up today told Janet that they now work one Saturday in four here. I don’t know about other areas though. We are assuming from the conversation that there are no Sunday appointments.

Everything goes through BTW. Aside from human conversations on the side that might happen. All machine-machine communication has to as all those functions are through BTW.

AA buy the broadband from BTW, BTW buy the VDSL or copper loop from Openreach. BTW place orders, order engineers, pursue faults with Openreach.

A fair few faults on the Openreach network need BTW input / action, especially when ADSL.

OR engineers have been working rostered Saturdays for donkeys years. It was one a month, but I believe it's now 8 a year (I'm not in this particular LOB anymore).

Sundays remain, for now, overtime only ... but as the TUPE period is almost up we will start to see small but steady changes to our T&C's.

Glad to see you are still with us, was starting to get worried with how quiet you've been lately.

Bless ya, Alex .... I genuinely don't have anywhere near as much time as I used to, to frequent 'Kitz', but nip on every few months for a week or two.

Can't not.  ;D ;D

Echoes what Alex said. Very good to see you’re still alive and kicking. Say hello from time to time if you’re able.
