BT Fibre 1 profile 40/10
« on: August 15, 2020, 10:10:10 PM »

Friend of mine ordered BT Fibre 1 and has a dl sync of 3999 with a noise margin of 7db and is also on Huawei so should in theory be able to get close to 55 with the 3db noise margin.

His speed estimate is 32-36 and the help chat told him that no 55mbit package exists and that he is within his range of 32-36.

Whats the best line to contact them through that doesn't result in the standard "you are in range" response as its obviously profile locked at 40/10.

While Openreach offer a 55/10 product: https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2016/01/uk-isps-muted-on-support-for-openreachs-55mbps-fttc-product.html

I do not believe any ISP ever adopted it

BT Fibre Essential is 40/10

BT Fibre 1 is 55/10 (sold as average speed 50Mb)

BT Fibre 2 is 80/20 (average speed 67Mb)

BT have used 55/10 for years.

It sounds like based on the estimates they have provisioned on 40/10.

I recommend they go through the mods on the BT Forums to try get changed in to 55/10.

Many ISPs have used the 55/10 tier including BT Retail.

Your friend can post on the BT Community forums with his modem stats and the moderators can help him if he has been put on the wrong profile.

Entering the phone number into the DSL Checker will reveal the lines capabilities:
https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

Running a BTW Speed test will reveal the profile the line has been set up to and remove all the speculation about which profile has been used.

BAsic stuff, not sure why it has not been done yet1

He posted the estimates already

That only gives an IP profile based on the current sync.

It does not tell you what product a line has been provisioned on.

So basic that half had been done already and you're incorrect on the 2nd part.

If there's nothing helpful to add why bother posting.

Running https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com will give a clean speed for the line so will show what the line is possibly capability of...

I wonder if this is a distance issue since his speed estimate is 32 to 36Mbps and the line is a long one so hard capped at 39999.

https://kitz.co.uk/adsl/cabinet-lookup.htm

Possibly best if he jumps into the BT consumer forums and one of the residents can take him through providing stats from his modem.  They are a bit 'knee jerk' over there but should look at his stats for him and make comment.

https://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Fibre-broadband/bd-p/BTInfinity

If it's been miss-provisioned one of the Mods should jump in eventually and get it sorted for him.

Will try the BT forums and show the stats etc because he is paying for Bt Fibre 1 which is more than Essential per month and is capped at 40/10 probably due to the estimate like mentioned here by j0hn.

Seems like with most things issues get sorted quicker if it's publically viewable, i only use my twitter to complain to companies.

Is it really worth it to them to pay for the higher package when that suggests at best they will gain a couple of a megabits?

Although depending on if its ECI or Hauwei I suppose there is the potential for a 3dB SNR which is probably locked out due to the banding right now.

It will be pretty much bang on 55mbit if the 3db profile applies which it can do as it is huawei.

Also they did some cashback thing so it was cheaper than pretty much anything else.

The point is they are paying for Fibre 1 switch is usually provisioned at 55/10.
It's sold as "average speed 50Mb".

The line could get 48-52Mb'ish with a 3dB profile.
It's a Huawei cabinet with G.INP enabled.

I achieved higher than my clean A estimate from the day my VDSL went live till the day I ceased it.

I'm not a fan of ISP's locking lines to tiers close to customers estimates on products sold with higher average speeds than the tier they provision on.
Sky do this all the time now.
They no longer have a specific 80/20 package and just put the customer on a package that matches their estimates.
It means there's a whole bunch of Sky customers hitting a 40Mb sync and probably not knowing they could get more if Sky opened the tap.
Those that notice find it impossible to get Sky to reprovision them.
TBB has a fair few examples of this.

I don't disagree with anything you said and I do agree its worth getting the cap removed to at least see what happens, just trying to set expectation as obviously 3dB is not guaranteed to be enabled.  Of course given the discount mentioned, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

My personal opinion is everyone should be allowed to sync at maximum and throughput throttled by the ISP to the package paid for.  But I suspect having people capped at 40 helps other people to obtain higher rates as it may reduce crosstalk, plus its obviously easier than the ISP needing their own equipment to do throttling.

Also the sync. at the maximum would mean SNRm @ 6db or 3db that would make the service more sensitive in case of bad weather or noise interference as service will be more unstable unlike if the sync. rate is within the package range.. and since you mentioned your opinion my package was 70mb and sync. is 81mb (but line capable of more) after downgrading to 30mb (expecting that DLM will lower the sync. rate to ~40mb) it increased the sync. to 97mb (still line can handle more but the 97mb is the sync. for 100mb package)  :shrug2: it never did that before..

Did not mean to Hijack the original post but as Alex mentioned the idea I am just mentioning what happened today

This is what happened to me. I have 2 lines coming into property. I was using BT, getting 40-42k, decided to move to TalkTalk 40/10 service save few pounds, now syncing at 39,998 on the TT line, as expected. The vodafone business line was around 45k, now 47k, so have I 'robbed Peter to Paul' so to speak?
