hi

i notice that up to 910Mbps/110Mbps is available at £60 a month (ne26) - can anyone tell me if the copper from the pod is used or do they fit optical from the pod to your home ? or is it another "snake oil" tech that still uses copper?

thanks

As the initials suggest, FTTP Fibre to the Premises, it is a fibre from the pod to you house,

Depends which ISP you use.

I just got activated on BT FTTP and my landline is still via the copper line.
Sometimes they put customers on a Digital Voice service where calls are via telephone port on the Hub (VOIP).

It's basically random with BT and you won't know till you order.

Some other ISP's provide no voice service, others VOIP only.

Ive a feeling it depends on the TIER you take out.. i.e. 110Mbps could be 'perhaps' thrown over copper and higher up you go; then they have to use optical...definitively (IMO)

The tier is irrelevant. It's totally random.

I've seen lines on fibre 900 with and without digital Voice, and lines on 80/20 with and without digital Voice.

I've just gone on 160/30 and they're activating my copper line later this week for calls.
I ordered the same package for my neighbour and they got put on digital Voice.

No amount of asking can have them change  whether or not they provide digital Voice.
The support staff can't change it during the order process or after service is live.

Digital Voice requires the BT Smart Hub 2, which they sent me 2 of  ::) but still no digital voice option.

Everyone on copper will eventually be moved to digital voice anyway.

It's also not an FTTP only thing now.
You can take out FTTC with BT and they can put you on digital voice.
Again there is no choice on this if that's how they want to provision you.

FTTPoD is optical. This whole thing has become completely confused with all the nonsense about the voice service.

You order a full fibre service if it's available to you that's what you get. End of discussion.

FTTP and FTTPoD are the same thing, the only difference is who pays to lay the fibre.
