Synology MR2200ac + ZyXEL VMG1312-B30A bridging issue
« on: August 13, 2020, 12:44:38 PM »

Good afternoon everyone, it's been a while!

I've dropped in today after a couple of years because I'm experiencing a strange issue with my Synology MR2200ac and VMG1312 when trying to bridge the WAN connection. I have done as described in the wiki (https://kitz.co.uk/routers/zyxel_VMG8324-B10A_bridge.htm) and connected two ethernet cables, one from LAN1 (ZyXEL WAN) to the WAN port on the MR2200ac, and then one from LAN2 to the LAN port on the MR2200ac.

This is where the weirdness begins. The MR2200ac has automatic IP address conflict resolution. When I set the VMG1312 to the IP address 10.0.0.10, and the MR2200ac to 10.0.0.1 with a DHCP range of 10.0.0.20-10.0.0.250, the MR2200ac believes there is an IP address conflict between the WAN side and the LAN side, despite this not being the case.

I have an open ticket with Synology about finding a way to disable the automatic resolution, as before the mechanism kicks in the network is functional and I can access the control panel of the ZyXEL. I was just wondering if anyone here was aware of a way to stop the ZyXEL from presenting the 10.0.0.10 IP address on the WAN port so that the MR2200ac will stop freaking out?

Any help is much appreciated, and all questions welcomed!

Are you certain that your separate Interface Group has been created correctly? (I suspect the answer is "yes".)

Having read through the details, once again, I agree that it appears to be a problem with the MR2200ac.

Could you try assigning the 10.0.0.1 IPv4 address to the VMG1312-B30A and the 10.0.0.10 IPv4 address to the MR2200ac, with its DHCP server handing out addresses in the 10.0.0.20 - 250 range?
