Just looked at the OpenWRT and the N55U isn't on the list. Probably because it only has 16m Flash.

Not sure if its the issue but OpenWRT rarely supports Broadcom chipsets due to various issues with it being an open source OS.

There's a lot of vendor restrictions that prevent them supporting certain hardware.

N55U is Mediatek chipset but so far wifi and wan have been reliable just out of date firmware.

There are 2 N55U on ASUS UK website one is called D1 (which supports ANNEX A/B) this one has updates till 2019 but from past firmware dates it is newer than the other one which called ANNEX A and has only support till 2016..

Thanks for that, these are from 2012 and 2014 hardware revision A1 for Annex A. I suspect you have found mine with the beta firmware which I am using.

Yes I found it and like  even the last update is "Beta Version" like they did not even bother to release a proper final update..
