Thank you all for your responses.  Alot of information to digest, however it confirms that Ethernet cable would be favourite, but doesn't rule out using powerline.

Powerline adaptors installed and all is well, TV connected to internet.

Glad to hear you have found a satisfactory solution to your friends issue.

As stated earlier, in some instances powerline adaptors do prove to be a quick, easy and not too costly option, in my experience they don't "always" produce DSL interference and are worth a try.

You gave me an idea. My PVR wifi is broken and I have a powerline pair sitting on the shelf so I connected the PVR to the Powerline and other end to my router, now fixed. But my SNR is 3.3db on Downstream of Internet and drops to 1.5-1.9db when I am streaming data over the powerline link. How's yours holding up?
